Less Than 1 Month Until Disney World Theme Park Closes Indefinitely

Time is running out for Walt Disney World guests who want to squeeze in a visit to Blizzard Beach.

The water park, which has been open alongside Typhoon Lagoon since May, is about to shut its gates once again. Its last operating day is September 7, 2025, leaving fans with only a few weeks to enjoy the park before it goes dark for an unspecified period.

The Clock Is Ticking

Unlike in years past, this summer gave families something extra: both of Disney’s water parks operating at the same time. The rare overlap brought back the pre-pandemic experience of choosing between Blizzard Beach’s snowy slopes and Typhoon Lagoon’s tropical slides. For many, it felt like a long-awaited return to normal.

That window is about to close. On September 8, Blizzard Beach will no longer be an option, and Disney has yet to confirm exactly when it will reopen. In past years, the park typically returned in November, but no schedule has been officially announced.

For visitors planning fall trips, the closure narrows options once again. Typhoon Lagoon will continue to operate, but Blizzard Beach — home to the towering Summit Plummet and family favorite Teamboat Springs — will be off the table. Those hoping to experience both water parks in a single vacation will need to act fast.

This shift comes against the backdrop of broader changes across Disney World. Since COVID-19, the resort has eliminated perks like FastPass, free airport transfers (aka the Magical Express), and nighttime Extra Magic Hours. Even park hours have shortened, with Animal Kingdom often closing before guests can see Pandora – World of Avatar lit up at night.

The Ongoing Debate

Many fans have long questioned Disney’s rotating water park schedule. The current system keeps only one park open at a time for much of the year, often leaving Blizzard Beach vulnerable to weather-related closures during the colder months. Critics argue that it would make more sense to shut both parks in winter for maintenance, then reopen them together in the spring.

Others imagine something bigger: an eventual retheming of Blizzard Beach. A Frozen-inspired overhaul is often floated in fan discussions, though such a project seems unlikely given Disney’s current slate of new attractions, including rides based on Encanto, Monsters, Inc., Cars, and Indiana Jones.

For now, the warning is clear. If Blizzard Beach is on your must-do list, the clock is already ticking. The snowy slides and lazy rivers will soon fall quiet, and nobody knows for sure when they will reopen.

Do you think Disney should close its water parks in the winter?
