If you’re eyeing a Universal Orlando Resort trip this September, brace yourself: not every attraction will be open. Some rides are getting routine maintenance, others take short breaks, and one attraction is forever gone.
Here’s the full rundown of what won’t be available and what to expect in the months ahead.

Universal Orlando’s Three Parks
Universal Orlando Resort is more than one theme park.
At Universal Studios Florida, guests step into the movies with rides inspired by big-screen hits.
Islands of Adventure packs thrills into every corner, from Jurassic dinosaurs to Marvel superheroes.
Epic Universe, the brand-new park that debuted in May 2025, takes things even further. With lands dedicated to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, Isle of Berk, and Harry Potter, it’s already a must-visit for fans of immersive design.
With so much to see, closures can sting a little extra.

Skull Island: Back in September
Skull Island: Reign of Kong went dark on August 20, but this one’s a quick turnaround. Guests after September 3 will once again be able to board the expedition through the jungle, complete with giant creatures and a face-to-face encounter with Kong himself.
Hogwarts Express: Temporary Break
The Hogwarts Express is a park-to-park must-do for Wizarding World fans. Unfortunately, it’s closing briefly from September 15–19. Each trip tells a different story, so the downtime will leave a small gap for those hoping to see both sides of the experience.

Rip Ride Rockit: Gone Forever
The most painful closure comes from Universal Studios Florida. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit officially ended its run on August 18, 2025. Riders loved choosing their playlist before launching the massive vertical lift hill. But now, the coaster is permanently retired, leaving behind nothing but memories and a space for future projects.
Volcano Bay: Watch the Calendar
Volcano Bay, Universal’s water park, doesn’t run on the same schedule as the theme parks. September usually keeps most attractions open, but cooler weather can bring select closures. Attractions like the Ko’okiri Body Plunge or the relaxing winding river might not be available every single day.

More Closures Ahead
September is just the start. Universal has announced several future downtimes that could affect upcoming visits:
Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: Closed October 6–31, 2025.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: Closed November 10–20, 2025.
Volcano Bay: Extended closure October 26, 2026 – March 24, 2027.
The Bottom Line
September 2025 brings both temporary setbacks and one major farewell. While Rip Ride Rockit won’t return, most other closures are short-lived. Between the new offerings at Epic Universe and longtime favorites still operating, there’s no shortage of experiences to enjoy.
Ride closures are part of the theme park cycle, but also open the door to something new.
