You don’t forget a surprise like this — you walk into Universal Orlando Resort expecting the usual sights, and suddenly one is gone. This week, guests spotted an entire section sealed off by high construction walls. The space had been open only recently, which made the abrupt closure stand out even more.
The rumor mill started spinning almost instantly, with nothing official from the park. Is it a repair? A refresh? Or something entirely new?

Projects Everywhere You Look
This isn’t an isolated case — Universal is amid several significant updates. One of the most attention-grabbing changes is the walling off of the Ghostbusters firehouse facade. Fans know this building by heart, and its sudden closure has fueled talk of a Ghostbusters comeback ride.
Meanwhile, the refurbishment list keeps growing:
Skull Island: Reign of Kong – An expedition through dense jungle full of dangerous creatures, ending with an encounter with the mighty Kong. (August 20 – September 3, 2025)
Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls – A goofy, animated water ride with a massive drop that delivers a guaranteed soak. (October 6 – 31, 2025)

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a motion-based thrill ride that blends physical sets and screens to immerse guests in Hogwarts' adventures. It will close for refurbishment from November 10 to 20, 2025.
And then there’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closes forever on August 18. Its choose-your-own-song gimmick made it a signature ride, and speculation over its replacement has ranged from Fast & Furious to Ghostbusters.

Clues at CityWalk
The trail leads outside the park to Universal CityWalk, a bustling mix of restaurants, shops, and live entertainment that acts as the main hub for guests. Here, the changes are impossible to miss.
A photo from @bioreconstruct shows new barriers near the Studios exit and beside Rockit’s track. Considering CityWalk’s role as the resort’s main pedestrian highway, even minor changes here could affect crowd flow in a big way.
Possible Explanation
So, what's behind the quiet construction? Many believe crews are building a new walkway to handle the ever-growing crowds better. With Rockit set to close, the timing gives Universal the perfect chance to adjust how guests move between the parks and CityWalk.
Right now, though, all anyone can do is watch and wonder.
A Resort in Motion
Universal Orlando Resort rarely sits still for long. Epic Universe has just opened. Refurbishments are happening across the parks. Mysterious closures keep popping up. It’s clear the resort is in the middle of a major evolution. What’s behind those walls might not be revealed for months. Whatever it is, it will change how guests experience this part of the resort.
