Amid Frontierland Makeover, Disney Changes Country Bear Jamboree (Again)

Earlier this month, some Walt Disney World guests were surprised to find the Country Bear Musical Jamboree missing a familiar face. Teddi Barra, the bear known for swinging down from the ceiling during her performance, was absent from the Magic Kingdom attraction. Her voice track remained, but the character herself had vanished.

Disney has since brought her back. The company offered no explanation, though the removal appears to have been routine maintenance.

A Longstanding Frontierland Fixture

The Country Bear Musical Jamboree occupies a unique place in Magic Kingdom’s history. Originally called the Country Bear Jamboree, the show debuted in 1971 and was among the first attractions in Frontierland. It was initially conceived by Walt Disney for a ski resort that never materialized, but the Audio-Animatronic production was eventually brought to life in Orlando.

The attraction quickly drew attention for its unusual mix of humor and musical performances. Disneyland added its own version in 1972, which operated until 2001. Tokyo Disneyland still runs a variation today, including seasonal overlays such as the ā€œJingle Bell Jamboree.ā€

At Walt Disney World, Country Bear Jamboree was significantly updated in 2024. Renamed the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, the production introduced a reworked setlist that includes country-style takes on ā€œThe Bare Necessities,ā€ ā€œA Whole New World,ā€ and ā€œTry Everything.ā€ Longstanding characters such as Henry, Ernest the ā€œDude,ā€ and Big Al continue to anchor the performance.

Frontierland in Flux

The timing of Teddi Barra’s brief disappearance coincides with major changes across Frontierland. Splash Mountain closed in 2023 and reopened the following summer as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, introducing a retelling inspired by The Princess and the Frog.

This year, Disney also shuttered several classic experiences — including Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat — to clear space for Piston Peak National Park, a new land themed to Pixar’s Cars.

Further down the line, Frontierland is slated to expand with a large-scale Villains Land. Disney has described the project as a dedicated area for its most iconic antagonists, complete with new attractions, dining, and retail. In the meantime, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad remains closed for refurbishment, with a projected reopening in 2026.

Amid these changes, the Country Bear Musical Jamboree has remained in place. Teddi Barra’s return means the full ensemble of Grizzly Hall performers is once again on stage, more than fifty years after the bears first began entertaining audiences.
