‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Is Getting a Special Sing-Along Release

It’s been over three decades since The Muppet Christmas Carol first graced theaters, and still the film continues to define Christmas traditions for generations.

Part musical, part comedy, and fully heartwarming, the movie retells Charles Dickens’ timeless 1843 story of Ebenezer Scrooge, but with an ensemble of Muppets that brings the festive tale to life in ways no live-action version could.

Michael Caine’s take on the infamous miser keeps the story grounded, while Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie infuse it with the charm and chaos fans have come to love.

In recent years, Disney+ has allowed fans to experience both the original theatrical release and a restored edition featuring the long-lost song “When Love Is Gone.”

Beyond home viewing, however, the movie has evolved into a live experience. The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film returns this holiday season, giving U.K. audiences another chance to watch the film accompanied by a live orchestra.

But fans in the U.K. have even more screenings to look forward to beyond the orchestral release. Daily “sing along” screenings of the film have now also been scheduled at London’s Prince Charles Cinema, from November 28 to December 24.

Whether or not the 1992 film will make any appearances beyond the screen — big or small — remains to be seen. Despite being a cherished classic, we're yet to see it transcend the screen into other mediums such as the West End and Broadway for a full-fledged stage musical. Strangely, LEGO has also yet to celebrate the film with a full set.

Nevertheless, there are still many ways for you enjoy the film. And if you aren't lucky enough to be a fan in the U.K., you can still catch The Muppet Christmas Carol on Disney+.

The film stars Kermit the Frog/Bob Cratchit (Steve Whitmire), Miss Piggy/Emily Cratchit (Frank Oz), The Great Gonzo/Charles Dickens/Narrator (Dave Goelz), Fozzie Bear/Fozziewig (Frank Oz), and Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine).

  1. I LOVE THIS VERSION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL! I HAVE THE MOVIE AND I WATCH IT EVERY YEAR. IT’S SO ENJOYABLE AND I LOVE HOW THE MUPPETS PUT THEIR OWN SPIN ON THIS CLASSIC CHRISTMAS STORY. THE SONGS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND ACTOR MICHAEL CAINE IS AMAZING AS SCROOGE. I LOVE HOW IT’S TOLD AND THE WAY THEY COMMENT ON THE STORY. I HOPE THEY RELEASE THE SING-ALONG VERSION.
