Universal Will Let Guests Who Pay $113 Stay in the Park for 26 Hours Straight

New Year’s Eve celebrations at theme parks often rely on fireworks and extended hours, but Universal Studios Japan is preparing something on a different scale. The Osaka park has confirmed bold plans to remain open for more than a full day to welcome 2026.

The announcement cements Universal’s reputation for pushing boundaries when it comes to live entertainment. Orlando relies on its multi-park setup and multiple Wizarding World of Harry Potter lands, while Hollywood leans on its studio backlot setting. Japan, meanwhile, has consistently carved out its own identity with distinctive attractions and large-scale seasonal events.

Unique rides like The Flying Dinosaur, Hollywood Dream – The Ride, and Space Fantasy – The Ride already set the park apart. Special programming, such as the Pokémon Unstoppable Halloween Party and the exclusive Universal Monsters Live: Rock and Roll Show, has made the Osaka destination a hub for one-of-a-kind experiences.

26 Hours of Entertainment at Universal Studios Japan

The park’s New Year’s Eve celebration will be branded NO LIMIT! Countdown 2026 and will run from 7 p.m. on December 31, 2025, until 9 p.m. on January 1, 2026. During this time, you can enjoy the park to your heart’s content for up to 26 hours starting from New Year’s Eve.

Tickets begin at 16,900 yen (approximately $113) and are capped at a limited number. The schedule includes a “Countdown Moment,” featuring around 4,000 fireworks erupting across the sky at midnight. Live shows are also central to the festivities, including the One Piece Premier Show 2025 and the Universal Cool Japan 10th Anniversary Singing Show.

Throughout the event, characters from Minions, Snoopy, Hello Kitty, and Sesame Street will roam the park. Guests will have access to top attractions, though some rules apply. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will require timed entry tickets for much of the event and is expected to close briefly for maintenance overnight.

For regular visitors, Universal Studios Japan will shut its gates at 5 p.m. on December 31 before transitioning into the all-night event.

A Growing Tradition

The 26-hour format is not entirely new. Last year, the park staged a similarly lengthy celebration to welcome 2025, even introducing temporary nap areas for those attempting to stay the entire time. That experiment proved successful enough to warrant a return, indicating strong demand for an immersive, once-a-year theme park marathon.

Universal’s approach highlights a broader strategy: lean into unique programming that competitors cannot easily replicate. The extended hours, fireworks, and exclusive performances offer more than just novelty — they emphasize Universal Studios Japan’s ability to turn seasonal moments into headline-making attractions.

For fans, the challenge is deciding whether the stamina required is part of the fun. Spending 26 hours in a theme park might sound daunting, but for die-hards, the prospect of beginning 2026 under fireworks, surrounded by rides and characters, may be irresistible.
