Universal Cuts Key Attraction With Immediate Effect Despite Busy Halloween Crowds

The biggest parade in Universal Orlando’s history won’t be rolling through the streets this month. The resort announced that the Universal Mega Movie Parade has been placed on hold, citing “in-park maintenance along the parade route.” The production is scheduled to return on October 22, though Universal warns that the date could shift.

The announcement comes as Universal Orlando undergoes one of its busiest years in decades. Epic Universe opened in May 2025, instantly drawing crowds to new lands such as SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. The park’s expansion further solidified Universal’s standing as Disney’s top rival in Central Florida.

A Year of Major Transitions at Universal

Beyond the debut of Epic Universe (which was admittedly pretty rocky at first), Universal Studios Florida has seen notable changes to its lineup. In August, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit closed permanently after more than a decade of operation. Known for its vertical lift hill and customizable soundtrack, the coaster was swiftly demolished, making way for what fans expect (or at least hope) will be a Ghostbusters-themed replacement.

Meanwhile, DreamWorks Land opened to younger guests in 2024, offering colorful attractions centered on Shrek, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda. The family-friendly area replaced the long-dormant Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. Though it provided new options for families, some critics noted the land appeared less detailed than Universal’s more ambitious expansions.

These shifts highlight Universal’s rapid evolution, reshaping its parks at a pace unmatched in Orlando’s competitive theme park market.

Universal Mega Movie Parade

First introduced in July 2024, the Universal Mega Movie Parade quickly became a fan favorite. With more than 100 performers, the daytime spectacle brought iconic films into the spotlight. Floats and performances celebrated classics such as Jurassic World, Ghostbusters, E.T., and Trolls.

“Your favorite movie characters leap off the screen and spring to life in a daytime parade,” Universal promises on its website. “Excite all your emotions as you feel the roar of the T. rex, enjoy the adventure of E.T., embrace your true colors with Trolls and more. You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer, you’ll relive memorable movie moments the whole family can enjoy.”

The parade runs through the park’s Hollywood section, making it a centerpiece of daytime entertainment. Its sudden removal leaves a noticeable gap in Universal’s schedule — particularly as Disney leans on its own parades to handle crowd flow and create memorable moments for guests.

What Comes Next

Universal has not detailed what specific maintenance is required, but lists the parade as returning on October 22.

For now, visitors will have to rely on stage shows, seasonal events, and the momentum of Epic Universe to carry the guest experience.

Universal Orlando has announced that the Universal Mega Movie Parade will be on hiatus until “Late October 2025” due to in-park maintenance along the parade route.
