Disney World Guests Fined Following Disney World Vacation

The Radfords, a UK family known for their Channel 5 show 22 Kids and Counting, celebrated Sue Radford’s 50th birthday with a £52,000 (around $69,000) Walt Disney World Resort trip in April 2025. Bringing 21 of their 22 children and 11 grandchildren, the British family’s multi-generational vacation included flights that alone cost more than £26,000.

Despite this spending, the Radfords faced legal consequences after taking four children out of school during term time. Each child incurred a £65 fine, plus £118 in court fees, totaling £756, reflecting strict UK rules limiting unauthorized absences to ten school sessions per year.

Sue and Noel Radford, parents to 22 children, fund their lifestyle through their bakery, Radford’s Pie Company, and TV earnings. Some older children contribute by paying board at home. Sue told LADBible they are “definitely not secret millionaires.”

The family’s Florida trip was documented online, showing moments across Disney parks, even as fines highlighted the challenges of coordinating large-scale vacations with legal obligations.

At the same time, Disney has adjusted its U.S. park pricing. Ticket, hotel, dining, and merchandise costs all increased recently, with a single-day ticket at Walt Disney World surpassing $200 for the first time. These changes come amid modest inflation, prompting questions about Disney’s strategy.

Analysts suggest the approach balances higher charges for peak visitors with discounts for off-peak periods. Through early 2026, Disney is offering significant discounts, attracting guests during slower times. For context, a single-park, one-day ticket cost $97 in 2015 and will reach $119 by 2026—a 22% increase below overall inflation, indicating careful planning rather than simply raising prices.

Despite these numbers, the Radfords celebrated across multiple generations, with Sue sharing updates from the park throughout their stay. Their story shines a light on both the cost of Disney vacations and the logistics of managing large families.

Would you consider fines for taking children out of school for vacations fair? Let us know in the comments!

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
