Disney has a knack for keeping Marvel fans on edge. With major shake-ups happening behind the scenes and bold storytelling decisions shaping the next phase of the MCU, almost nothing seems off the table anymore. The latest move? A well-loved Marvel character won’t appear in the next Spider-Man film — something many fans weren’t expecting.
This character’s absence isn’t just a minor detail. It changes how fans imagined the story might unfold and signals a new direction for the franchise.

The Bigger Picture
Marvel isn’t making these choices randomly. Every character, every story arc is building toward one huge cinematic event: Avengers: Doomsday. As the studio gears up for that crossover, it’s prioritizing certain heroes and streamlining others.
It’s not uncommon for smaller roles to be sidelined when a significant event looms. And that seems to be what’s happening here.

Spider-Man’s Reset
When we last saw Peter Parker, his world had fallen apart. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) left him alone in a tiny apartment, unknown to the people who once meant everything to him. Gone were the fancy suits and connections to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. What was left was classic Spider-Man: the friendly neighborhood hero with nothing but grit and determination.
This new chapter is about rebuilding, and Marvel seems committed to telling that story without relying on cameos from other heroes.

Enter Brand New Day
The fourth film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is expected to stick to that stripped-down tone. Reports suggest that classic villains, such as Scorpion and Tombstone, may be stepping into the spotlight. That alone suggests a darker, more grounded story focused on Peter and his city.
But this is Spider-Man, and surprise appearances have always been part of the magic.
A Pattern of Big Moments
No Way Home is a perfect example. Audiences erupted when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appeared on stage. Even Daredevil’s brief cameo — Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock defending Peter — left fans buzzing for months.
It felt like Marvel had big plans for him going forward. Many assumed he’d have a role in the next film. That hope ended this week.

A Major Character Removal
Charlie Cox officially addressed the rumors and shut them down. He explained that he’s tied up with other projects and isn’t part of the Spider-Man sequel. “I’m not in Spider-Man,” he said, putting the speculation to rest.
That single confirmation immediately changed how fans view the upcoming film.
The Future Is Bright
The timing is especially striking, as Daredevil: Born Again was released in March and reignited excitement for the character. Fans want more of him, and Spider-Man feels like a natural place for that.
Even though he won’t appear this time, Tom Holland is expected to lead another trilogy after Brand New Day. That gives Marvel and Sony plenty of time to reunite these two heroes on the big screen.

A Miss Now, A Payoff Later
Daredevil’s absence stings, but Marvel loves playing the long game. This could easily be a setup for something bigger down the line. By giving Peter Parker a solo-focused story now, Marvel could make his eventual team-up with Matt Murdock even more impactful.
For now, Brand New Day will bring Spider-Man back to his roots. And even without Daredevil, that’s something fans can look forward to.
