Several heartbreaking incidents have marked the past few weeks in Central Florida. Since mid-October, five guests have tragically lost their lives at various Walt Disney World Resort hotels. The first incident occurred at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where rumors initially spread of a collision with the resort’s Monorail. However, authorities later clarified that Summer Equitz, a 31-year-old “Disney superfan” from Illinois, tragically died by suicide after falling from a balcony. Equitz had traveled to Orlando alone and was reported missing by her family before the incident.

A few days later, on October 21, another guest in their 60s passed away due to natural causes at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Less than a week after that, on October 23, Matthew Cohn, a 28-year-old man, also died by suicide after falling from Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Cohn had checked into a 12th-floor room the previous evening, paying in cash.

On November 2, a woman in her 60s died following a medical emergency at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, though authorities confirmed no foul play was involved. Then, on November 8, another guest passed away at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. While the identity of the guest was not shared, authorities confirmed the death was from natural causes.

While “person down” calls are not always associated with tragic outcomes, many of the recent incidents at Walt Disney World Resort began as such reports.

At the time of writing, no additional details about the incident or the identity of the individual involved have been released. Disney Fanatic will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available.
