Dynamite Entertainment is expanding one of Disney’s most enduring cult favorites with “Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town”, a new comic book miniseries arriving in the new year. The project was announced by the publisher at this year’s NYCC, and now, Flickering Myth has offered the first proper look at issue #1 with a preview that includes cover art, prose, and several interior panels.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) has remained a seasonal staple for more than three decades, largely anchored by Jack Skellington’s collision of Halloween Town and Christmas Town. That makes the first preview for “The Shiver of Christmas Town” stand out immediately: Jack, the figurehead of the franchise, is nowhere to be seen. Based on the synopsis, the pages released so far, and the artwork in the preview, the new story appears to shift its focus entirely to Sally, Dr. Finkelstein, and a few familiar troublemakers.

The comic comes from writer Torunn Grønbekk, known for work on “Thor” and “Venom”, alongside artists Edu Menna (“Army of Darkness”), Adriano Augusto, and Taylor Esposito. Issue #1 wastes no time moving into new territory for the beloved franchise.
Dynamite’s official plot description reads:
“The enigmatic Dr. Finkelstein, Sally’s creator, has another creation in the works. When he debuts an unusual, yet unexpectedly adorable creature as a new pet, Sally is tasked with taking care of it. Only for the three resident trick-or-treaters of Halloween Town to have it in tow as they embark on their journey to Christmas Town.”

According to the preview, the tone for the upcoming comic fits neatly with the world Tim Burton helped establish, but the absence of Jack suggests the miniseries is carving out a corner of Halloween Town that the film never explored. It’s an angle that could give supporting characters room to lead a full adventure without relying on the Pumpkin King.
“Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town” #1 arrives January 21, 2026.
