Ahsoka Tano helped redefine what a breakout Star Wars character could look like, but now, Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series Maul — Shadow Lord suggests the franchise is already lining up another potential fan favorite with Devon Izara.
Ahsoka first appeared in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars before becoming a central figure in the long-running series of the same name, which ended in 2020.
Voiced by Ashley Eckstein, the Togruta Padawan has also appeared in other projects, such as Star Wars Rebels (2014 — 2018), the 2016 novel Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston, Star Wars Forces of Destiny (2017 — 2018), Disney Infinity 3.0, Tales of the Jedi (2022), and the LEGO Star Wars miniseries Rebuild the Galaxy (2024) and its 2025 follow-up.

Rosario Dawson later portrayed the character in live action in The Mandalorian Season 2 and the Disney+ series Ahsoka, which premiered in 2023 and has a second season in production.
Now, Star Wars appears to be exploring similar storytelling territory with Maul — Shadow Lord. According to StarWars.com, the series is “set after the events of The Clone Wars” and follows Maul as he attempts “to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.”
The series introduces Devon Izara, a Twi-lek Jedi voiced by Gideon Adlon (The Craft: Legacy). The official description states, “On the run from the Empire, Devon Izara is conflicted. Living in hiding to survive in challenging times, she must adapt and accept a future far different than the one she expected for herself.” Watch the new trailer below:
Devon shares several clear parallels with Ahsoka. Both are Force-sensitive warriors navigating the fallout of the Jedi Order’s collapse and struggling with their place in a changing galaxy. Their visual designs also invite comparison, as Twi-leks and Togrutas both feature distinctive “lekku”.
But the connection runs deeper through Maul himself. In The Clone Wars Season 7’s Siege of Mandalore arc, Maul attempts to recruit Ahsoka to help reshape the galaxy. Shadow Lord appears to revisit that dynamic, with Maul targeting Devon as a potential apprentice.

Star Wars has repeatedly elevated side characters into major figures, and Devon’s introduction looks set to continue that tradition. Whether she reaches Ahsoka’s level of popularity, though, remains to be seen, but the groundwork is clearly being laid.
Maul — Shadow Lord premieres April 6 with a two-episode event and stars Sam Witwer, Richard Ayoade, Vanessa Marshall, Chris Diamantopoulos, A.J. LoCascio, David W. Collins, Steve Blum, Wagner Moura, Dennis Haysbert, and Charlie Bushnell.
