When Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, it did more than continue the story of a former Padawan. It unified threads from decades of Star Wars lore. The series, created by Dave Filoni and executive produced by Filoni, Jon Favreau, and Kathleen Kennedy, bridges The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and the post-original trilogy timeline of 9 ABY, tying directly to The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew.

Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano, joined by Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, and Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth. Season 1 also marked one of the final performances of Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, a role now recast following his passing.
The first season concluded with Ahsoka and Sabine stranded on Peridea as Ezra reentered the main galaxy. Fans debated whether the story would continue through Filoni’s upcoming feature film or other connected projects. That speculation ended when Ahsoka Season 2 was officially confirmed—alongside Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, a theatrical release set for May 2026.
According to reports from late 2024, Filoni approached the new season with a clear end in sight. “According to [Daniel Richtman], the plan now is to make sure the series has a satisfying ending in case it’s canceled and doesn’t return for a third season.” The source added, “We hadn’t expected Filoni to tell this story beyond a couple of seasons, anyway, but Disney+ could always push for more episodes if Ahsoka is a big enough hit.”

Stevenson’s death in 2023 left a lasting mark on the production. The Rome and Thor actor passed away just before his 59th birthday while filming Cassino in Ischia (2024) after being hospitalized for heart issues. The first season was dedicated to his memory.
Lucasfilm has since confirmed that “Scottish actor Rory McCann, best known for playing the burly brute The Hound on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will replace late actor Ray Stevenson for a second season of Star Wars show Ahsoka,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. A new image of McCann as Baylan Skoll was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan.
The move continues a long-standing Star Wars trend of animated-to-live-action casting transitions, with Dawson, Winstead, Bordizzo, and Esfandi stepping into roles originated by Ashley Eckstein, Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar, and Taylor Gray.

For Dawson, Ahsoka’s story is now entering a more reflective and hopeful era. Speaking at Comic-Con in Scotland (via SFF Gazette), she revealed, “She had a more of a strong gravitas at the beginning, and she was a little bit more unflappable. And I’m liking that she’s relaxing, she’s kind of getting back into her joy.”
That change, Dawson said, was influenced by Ahsoka’s emotional reunion with Anakin Skywalker during Season 1’s World Between Worlds arc. “I think those moments with Hayden [Christensen] and Anakin were so important for her to heal something so she could be more present. And that’s what I’m really enjoying. I think we get to explore that a lot more in the second season.”
With the galaxy still recovering from the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka’s personal evolution mirrors the larger theme of renewal. As Dawson added, “I’m really glad that we get to add more joy into her life and see her relax a little bit more and work in community a little bit more than she has.”

As production moves forward, Ahsoka Season 2 looks poised to deliver both closure and rediscovery—honoring the past while guiding one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters into a brighter future.
