Lucasfilm has confirmed that Ahsoka will return for a second season on Disney+, continuing the journey of the fan-favorite ex-Jedi while further exploring the New Republic timeline. Set firmly after the events of Return of the Jedi, Season 2 will expand on threads established across The Clone Wars, Rebels, and the interconnected 9 ABY era.

Debuting on August 22, 2023, Ahsoka didn’t just serve as a solo arc for Rosario Dawson’s titular hero—it emerged as a central component in Lucasfilm’s Disney+ storytelling framework. Acting as a narrative bridge between The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and future storylines, it helped shape the modern Star Wars TV universe.
Created by Dave Filoni, with executive producers Filoni, Jon Favreau, and Kathleen Kennedy, Ahsoka delves into a galaxy struggling to recover from Imperial rule. Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano sets out to find missing Jedi Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) while coming face to face with the rise of Grand Admiral Thrawn, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen, reprising his role from Rebels.

Season 1 introduced a diverse roster of characters. Natasha Liu Bordizzo appeared as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead took on the role of General Hera Syndulla, and Ivanna Sakhno played Shin Hati. The late Ray Stevenson brought gravitas to Baylan Skoll, and Diana Lee Inosanto reprised her role as Morgan Elsbeth. The finale left several characters scattered across galaxies—Ahsoka and Sabine marooned on Peridea, Ezra returning to reunite with Hera, and Thrawn en route to the core worlds.
For a time, it remained uncertain whether the story would continue through a second season or shift toward Filoni’s feature film. But at long last, clarity has arrived: Ahsoka Season 2 has officially been greenlit alongside The Mandalorian and Grogu, a theatrical entry helmed by Favreau and slated for May 2026.

While Season 2 is moving forward, there may not be a Season 3. One report shed light on how the creative team is managing expectations: “According to [Daniel Richtman], the plan now is to make sure the series has a satisfying ending in case it’s canceled and doesn’t return for a third season.”
The same report added: “We hadn’t expected Filoni to tell this story beyond a couple of seasons, anyway, but Disney+ could always push for more episodes if Ahsoka is a big enough hit.”

One emotional hurdle Season 2 faces is the absence of Ray Stevenson, who passed away in 2023 at age 58. Stevenson’s portrayal of Baylan Skoll was one of the standout performances of Season 1. The show paid tribute to him, and Rory McCann of Game of Thrones fame will step into the role moving forward.
Another challenge: resolving how Ahsoka and Sabine return from Peridea. The closing scenes left their fates in limbo—but hints suggest that someone unexpected will lend a hand.
That someone? Anakin Skywalker.

Hayden Christensen’s evolution as Anakin Skywalker has spanned decades, from the conflicted Jedi of Attack of the Clones to the haunted Force ghost of Ahsoka. In Season 1, Christensen returned in a striking appearance as Anakin in the World Between Worlds—a layered depiction that captured both the weight of his fall and the hope of redemption. His presence resonated as more than just nostalgia—it reframed Anakin as a guiding light for his former apprentice.
Now, it seems Christensen is far from done.
“It started when Spacecon San Antonio took to social media to write, ‘We had attempted to have Hayden Christensen return to appear with The Emperor ‘Ian McDiarmid’ … but Hayden is still filming the next season of Ahsoka and is unable to commit,'” SFF Gazette wrote.
Christensen had already cancelled an appearance at Comic-Con Manchester, citing overnight shoots. With SpaceCon San Antonio not arriving until October 2025, these filming commitments point toward a larger role for Anakin in the upcoming season.

At Star Wars Celebration Tokyo, the Ahsoka cast officially confirmed that filming for Season 2 is now underway. With no other live-action Star Wars shows currently in production, Ahsoka stands alone as Lucasfilm’s main Disney+ priority—at least for now. The move may signal a more focused strategy as the franchise ramps up theatrical production.
After The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth, will follow.
