Walt Disney World guests planning 2026 vacations are already running into an unexpected problem, and it’s one that could completely reshape check-in day plans.
While Disney’s big changes usually involve ride closures or new construction walls popping up overnight, this issue is happening in a quieter way. It’s not being treated like a major announcement, but it’s still affecting how guests start their trips.
The issue is simple: Disney World is currently operating with only one water park.

As of February 15, 2026, Typhoon Lagoon has closed for seasonal refurbishment, leaving Blizzard Beach as the only open water park at Walt Disney World until later this spring.
Why This Matters for Check-In Day
For many resort guests, check-in day is one of the strangest days of the trip. You might arrive at 9 a.m., but your room may not be ready until mid-afternoon. You may have travel fatigue, but you also want to start having fun immediately.
That’s why so many guests choose a water park on arrival day.
A water park gives families something exciting to do without needing a full theme park strategy. It’s relaxing, flexible, and feels like the perfect way to kick off vacation mode.
But now, guests who planned to make Typhoon Lagoon their arrival day tradition are being forced to change plans. With that park closed, everything has to revolve around Blizzard Beach instead.
The Free Water Park Perk Is Not Active Yet
A lot of guests are also confused because Disney has promoted a free water park admission benefit for resort guests. However, that perk does not apply yet.
Disney’s free water park admission offer is only valid for trips between May 26 and September 8, 2026. That means this isn’t currently an active perk for guests visiting right now.
Still, even without the free admission offer, water parks remain a popular check-in day activity, and guests are still being affected by the limited options.

When Typhoon Lagoon Returns
Disney has confirmed that Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to reopen on May 12, 2026. Once that happens, both water parks will be open again, and the check-in day planning issue will ease up.
By the time the free water park perk begins on May 26, guests should have access to both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
What Guests Should Do Before Their Trip
If you’re visiting Disney World before May 12, it’s important to plan ahead. Don’t assume Typhoon Lagoon will be available, and don’t build your arrival day around it.
Instead, check Blizzard Beach hours in advance, keep your swimsuits easily accessible, and be prepared for higher crowds—especially during spring break.
It’s not the kind of “check-in change” Disney is advertising, but for many guests, it’s already reshaping how 2026 trips begin.
