Disney has apparently axed a beloved tradition at EPCOT.
At EPCOT, World Showcase stands apart by celebrating global culture through architecture, cuisine, music, and traditions. Each pavilion offers an immersive snapshot of its country, making the park less about rides and more about discovery, storytelling, and shared human experience.

In the United Kingdom Pavilion, guests can purchase personalized family coats of arms, along with matching plaques and detailed family histories. At The Crown & Crest shop, guests can purchase “a UK crest on a mug or your family coat of arms on a plaque.”
One of its quirkiest traditions sees cast members adjust the sales display with family crests that contain pop culture or Disney references.

In the past, this has included references to The Muppets, One Direction, Figment, and High School Musical. Most notably, in January, a family crest bid adieu to DINOSAUR at Disney's Animal Kingdom with a shield accompanied by a sketch of a dinosaur getting hit with an asteroid, and a banner reading “1998-2026.”
However, recent reports suggest that this was the final straw for the beloved EPCOT tradition.
Disney Shuts Down EPCOT Tradition
A guest took to X, formerly Twitter, to claim that cast members at The Crown & Crest are no longer able to come up with their own crest designs. The DINOSAUR design allegedly “ruffled some executive feathers.”
Per a CM, the Crown & Crest at Epcot is no longer allowed to create monthly pop culture crests. Dinosaur was the last one, and it apparently “ruffled some executive feathers.”

Unsurprisingly, guests aren't too happy.
“It was a fun little thing they did that caused no harm,” complained one Disney fan. “Sucks when management is allergic to fun.”
“I'm sorry, the DINOSAUR one is what they're pissy about?! and not any of the others for the last like two years???” said another X user. “What a bunch of babies wow i'm really shocked that they're so butthurt over that of all things when there likely would've been an indy one eventually.”

Guests can still order the crests of their choice at the store. However, the fun displays seem to be a thing of the past.
The DINOSAUR crest referred to the recent closure of the attraction at Animal Kingdom. Plenty of fans were displeased by Disney's decision to eliminate the final vestiges of DinoLand U.S.A. for the sake of its Tropical Americas expansion, but it seems like Disney executives weren't so keen on cast members putting pen to paper ā literally ā to mourn the attraction's demise.
It's worth noting that Disney hasn't officially confirmed the end of the tradition.
What do you think of Disney's decision to axe pop culture references from The Crown & Crest?
