Disneyland Resort has quietly taken two of its three Toy Story (1995)-themed attractions off the table within the span of a single week. Unfortunately, neither has a reopening date.
A One-Two Punch for Pixar Fans
Toy Story Midway Mania! went dark at Disney California Adventure Park on April 6, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters follows on April 13 at Disneyland Park. Both will be closed indefinitely for refurbishment, with Disneyland Resort offering no timeline or explanation for either project. Guests visiting the Southern California resort hoping to experience the Pixar franchise have one remaining option: Jessie's Critter Carousel.

The Buzz Lightyear closure was announced earlier in the year, though Disney stopped short of sharing anything about the scope of work or what the attraction might look like when it eventually returns.
Florida Version Reopens

Across the country, Walt Disney World Resort‘s counterpart to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters reopened on April 8 after an overhaul that began in August 2025. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park returned with a fully updated experience: new ride vehicles, redesigned handheld blasters, upgraded interactive targets, and an audio-animatronic robot character named Buddy.
Disneyland Resort has given no indication that its version is in line for the same treatment.
Timing Worth Noting
Two theories hover over both closures. Toy Story Midway Mania! received Disneyland70 anniversary graphics last summer as part of the resort's ongoing 70th anniversary celebration, which runs through August. Keeping the ride dark until that milestone concludes would avoid the need to remove the temporary theming mid-celebration.

The second theory centers on Toy Story 5 (2026), opening in theaters on June 19. Having both Pixar shooter rides closed simultaneously — directly ahead of a new franchise installment — raises the possibility that updates tied to the film are being worked in behind the scenes. Disneyland Resort hasn't confirmed anything of the sort, and a return with zero visible changes remains equally possible.
Disney Fanatic will keep tabs on both refurbishments as more information becomes available.
