If you’ve been to Walt Disney World recently, you may have noticed something felt a little off. Not in a big, obvious way—but in smaller moments. Certain experiences just weren’t there anymore.
That feeling has been building for a while.
Now, Disney appears to be making a move that longtime fans will recognize right away. A character experience that quietly disappeared has found its way back into the parks, and it’s already catching attention.
The Magic of Disney Characters
There’s a reason character meet-and-greets are such a big deal. They’re not just quick photo opportunities—they’re moments that feel real.
Meeting Woody and Buzz or finally seeing a favorite princess in person creates memories that go beyond the rides. These interactions give Disney World its personality.
So when a character experience goes missing, it leaves a gap.
It doesn’t always happen with an announcement. Sometimes it just fades out. And unless you visit often, you might not even realize it’s gone until it’s been gone for a while.
That’s why returns like this stand out.

A Quiet Comeback Inside the Parks
Something familiar has reappeared at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it’s one of the more unique experiences Disney offers.
This isn’t just about meeting a character—it’s about interacting with one in a way that feels more personal. Guests aren’t just taking photos; they’re part of the moment.
Recent park visitors may have already seen it listed again in the My Disney Experience app, with appearances scheduled throughout the day. It’s not heavily promoted, but it’s there for those who are looking for it.
A Major Return
Talking Dug from Up (2009) has returned to Animal Kingdom.
The interactive version of Dug first appeared in 2024 at Disneyland Resort before arriving in Florida. He quickly became a fan favorite, roaming Discovery Island and appearing near the Wilderness Explorers area before moving to the Discovery Island Trails alongside Russell.
Then, for months, the talking version wasn’t available.
Guests could still see Dug at times, but the version that could speak and react in real time disappeared. That made a noticeable difference for fans who had experienced it before.

Now, talking Dug is back, appearing at scheduled times between morning and mid-afternoon. Guests can check the My Disney Experience app for the latest times, as they can change daily.
Even though the return happened around Earth Day, it’s not being treated as a one-day event. Still, there’s no timeline for how long it will last, which makes it feel like something you don’t want to miss.
Since the experience depends on technology, there may be moments when Dug isn’t talking. Even then, he’ll still be available to meet.
What’s Coming Next for the Park
This return aligns with more character experiences along the way.
Animal Kingdom is preparing to introduce Bluey’s Wild World, a new offering based on the popular show. The experience will focus on Australian wildlife and include interactive elements for guests.
Visitors will have the chance to meet characters and take part in activities inspired by the series. It’s another sign that Disney is leaning into character-driven experiences again.

Why This Return Matters
Bringing back talking Dug might seem like a small update, but it carries more weight than that.
It shows that Disney recognizes what works and is willing to bring those experiences back. For guests, it’s a reminder of what makes the parks special.
Animal Kingdom, in particular, has been undergoing many changes. Adding something familiar back helps balance it out.
If this continues, it could mean more returning experiences in the future.
For now, though, guests can once again meet Dug—and this time, he has something to say.
