Islands of Adventure’s Original Era Nears Final Chapter at Universal Orlando

Another opening-day Islands of Adventure experience may soon be disappearing from Universal Orlando Resort.

Rumors circulating online claim The Mystic Fountain inside Sindbad’s Bazaar could close as soon as next week, with Friday, May 15 reportedly being discussed as a possible final operating day. Universal has not confirmed the rumored closure.

The interactive fountain has operated since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999. Hidden within The Lost Continent, the talking water spirit became known for joking with guests, holding conversations, and occasionally spraying visitors standing nearby.

For many longtime fans, the fountain represents one of the last remaining pieces of the park’s original version still operating.

Last week for the Mystic Fountain! 😢

Another Original Islands of Adventure Feature May Be Closing

When Islands of Adventure opened, The Lost Continent was designed around mythology-inspired environments, walkthrough spaces, live entertainment, and interactive details. The area became home to attractions including The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad and Poseidon's Fury.

Over the past several years, however, much of the land has gradually disappeared.

The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad permanently closed in 2018 after nearly 20 years of operation. Poseidon’s Fury later shut down in 2023 following years of reduced and inconsistent operation.

This makes me so sad. For all the hot work we had to put in at Sindbad, what made it fun was Mystic Fountain, the kindness of the performers and techs, and the beauty of the gardens around it. Now they’re gone. My favorite big old jasmine bower looks like it’s just gone. 😢

Unlike those larger attractions, Mystic Fountain remained fully operational and continued interacting with guests daily.

Universal Continues Transforming The Lost Continent

Construction activity throughout The Lost Continent has increased significantly over the past year.

Aerial footage shared online appears to show clearing work near both the former Sindbad theater and Poseidon’s Fury. Construction walls have also expanded throughout sections of the land.

Universal has additionally confirmed that Mythos Restaurant will close in 2027 as redevelopment plans continue.

Although Universal has not officially announced what will replace the area, speculation has continued online for months.

Many fans believe the land could eventually become part of a Nintendo-related expansion tied to either Pokémon or The Legend of Zelda (although some believe the latter is heading to Epic Universe instead).
