Disney Could Replace Rey and Mando With Underused ‘Star Wars’ Character

Star Wars has introduced countless iconic characters over the decades. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Darth Vader (James Earl Jones), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Yoda, Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein/Rosario Dawson), Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), and Grogu have all become defining faces of the franchise across different generations of fans.

But now and then, the franchise introduces someone who immediately feels like they deserve a much larger future, only for Lucasfilm to seemingly move on from them entirely. That may be exactly what happened with the character Lop.

The rabbit-like Force user from Star Wars: Visions debuted in 2021 through the anime-inspired episode “Lop and Ochō,” and despite only appearing once, she quickly became one of the most visually memorable characters introduced during the Disney era.

Between her samurai-inspired costume design, engraved green lightsaber, visor, umbrella glider, and hovering droid companion TD-4, Lop immediately stood apart from nearly every other Jedi-adjacent character in the franchise.

Part of what made the episode resonate so strongly was its emotional core. Set during the reign of the Galactic Empire, “Lop and Ochō” tells the story of two sisters pulled apart by war and ideology, with Lop embracing the Force while Ochō turns toward the Empire and eventually the dark side.

The story ends on a major unresolved cliffhanger, making the lack of continuation over the last five years even more surprising. Since then, Star Wars: Visions has continued expanding.

Volume 2 released in 2023, followed by Volume 3 in 2025, while Lucasfilm is reportedly developing Volume 4 alongside the confirmed Star Wars: Visions Presents anime spinoff banner for Disney+. And yet, Lop remains absent.

Ironically, though, she may have more franchise potential than many characters Lucasfilm continues to prioritize. She feels tailor-made for expansion beyond animation.

Lop could easily headline her own Disney+ anime series, appear in live action, or even become part of Disney Parks experiences and merchandise lines thanks to her instantly recognizable visual design, much like Ahsoka Tano.

In many ways, she represents exactly the kind of creative storytelling fans have been asking Lucasfilm to explore more often.

Star Wars: Visions has been widely praised because it allows creators to experiment outside the constraints of mainline canon continuity, resulting in stories that often feel fresher, more emotional, and more visually daring than many recent live-action projects. That’s exactly why Lop’s disappearance feels like such a missed opportunity.
