Disney+ users opened the app this week expecting the same streaming experience they’ve grown used to over the last several years. Instead, many subscribers quickly realized that one of the platform’s most useful features had quietly disappeared.
What frustrated people most was how suddenly it happened.
Disney never issued a public announcement about the change. There was no email sent to subscribers, no in-app explanation, and no social media post preparing users for the removal. Fans simply logged in and noticed the feature was gone.
For a platform already facing criticism over rising subscription costs and constant interface adjustments, the reaction spread quickly online.
Disney+ Has Changed a Lot Since 2019
When Disney+ launched in 2019, the service instantly became a major player in the streaming industry. Disney built the platform around some of the biggest entertainment brands in the world, including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, and decades of classic Disney content.
That massive library helped separate Disney+ from competitors.
Subscribers could move from The Mandalorian to Frozen II to older Disney Channel favorites without ever leaving the app. For many families, the platform felt simple, organized, and easy to use during its early years.
But Disney+ has evolved significantly since then.
The company expanded the service into international markets, introduced more mature programming in certain regions, and later integrated Hulu content directly into the app for U.S. users. Disney also continued redesigning portions of the interface as it tried to compete more aggressively with other streaming platforms.
Not every change landed well with subscribers.

Subscribers Have Already Been Frustrated
The latest controversy arrives after several years of growing complaints from Disney+ users.
One major source of frustration involved Disney’s decision to blend Hulu and Disney+ into a more connected streaming experience. While Disney viewed the move as a way to strengthen its streaming business, some subscribers felt the platform became harder to navigate once Hulu titles started appearing throughout the app.
Others pushed back against password-sharing restrictions.
Like many streaming companies, Disney+ began limiting account sharing outside of a subscriber’s household. Users who previously shared accounts with friends or extended family suddenly faced new warnings and restrictions.
At the same time, prices continued climbing.
Disney+ originally attracted many customers because of its relatively low monthly cost. But over the last few years, subscription prices increased, ad-supported plans became more prominent, and bundle promotions expanded across the platform.
Now, another unpopular change has landed directly in front of subscribers.

A Crucial Browsing Feature Has Disappeared
Disney+ users recently discovered that the platform’s A-Z browsing tool no longer appears to be available.
The feature allowed subscribers to sort titles alphabetically, rather than relying entirely on Disney’s homepage recommendations or search functions. For many users, it became one of the easiest ways to explore the streaming library.
Now, it appears to be gone.
Disney has not publicly explained why the feature disappeared, and many subscribers only noticed after trying to browse the app themselves. Instead of scrolling through a full alphabetical list, users now primarily see curated rows, genre collections, trending titles, and algorithm-driven suggestions.
Some fans believe the change may be connected to the growing Hulu integration inside Disney+. Since Hulu dramatically increased the number of titles available on the service, maintaining the older alphabetical system may have become more complicated behind the scenes.
Still, subscribers have not reacted positively.

Fans Say the Feature Made Browsing Easier
Many Disney+ users argue that the A-Z option gave them more control over how they explored the platform.
Without it, some subscribers feel Disney’s algorithm now dominates the viewing experience. Instead of browsing titles naturally, users often rely on recommended rows and promoted content selected by the platform.
That has led to growing complaints about decision fatigue.
Rather than typing individual titles into the search bar, many viewers preferred casually scrolling through alphabetical listings to rediscover older content or stumble across movies and series they had forgotten about.
Some users also believe the feature made lesser-known content easier to find. Without the A-Z browsing system, subscribers worry that many titles are now buried beneath trending recommendations and homepage promotions.

Disney+ Removed the Feature Before
This is not the first time Disney+ users have dealt with the disappearance of the alphabetical browsing tool.
Several years ago, Disney+ removed the feature during another major platform expansion tied to international markets. Subscribers complained then as well, especially those who relied on alphabetical browsing to navigate the growing catalog.
Eventually, Disney restored the feature.
That history gives some subscribers hope that the company could reverse course once again. For now, though, many users feel Disney+ continues making the platform more expensive while simultaneously making it harder to browse comfortably.
