Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) has finally swung into theaters, ushering in a brand-new era for Peter Parker (Tom Holland) following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film has generated plenty of discussion among fans, not only for its return to a more grounded, street-level Spider-Man story but also for its surprising connections to Marvel's X-Men future.

Before the film's release, one of its biggest mysteries centered on Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. Marvel Studios kept her role under wraps for months, leading to endless speculation about who she might be playing.
Some fans expected a classic Spider-Man character, while others believed she could be one of the MCU's first major X-Men. As it turns out, the latter proved to be true.
Brand New Day reveals that Sink is the new Jean Grey, introducing one of Marvel's most iconic mutants into the MCU and laying the groundwork for the X-Men's future on the big screen.
Jean Grey Will Return
Fortunately, Jean Grey fans won't have to wait long to see the powerful telepath return following her surprise MCU debut. However, when Jean next appears later this year, it won't be Sadie Sink reprising the role.
Instead, another version of the beloved X-Men mutant is set to appear in Marvel's Wolverine, the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive from Insomniac Games.

Unlike Sink's live-action incarnation, the Jean Grey featured in Marvel's Wolverine exists in an entirely separate universe and has no connection to Marvel Studios' cinematic timeline.
Still, the timing couldn't be much better.
With audiences still discussing Sink's role in Brand New Day, Marvel fans are about to receive another interpretation of one of the publisher's most enduring characters.
Recently, during San Diego Comic-Con, per Deadline, Marvel's Wolverine narrative director Walt Williams and actress Krizia Bajos, who provides Jean Grey's voice and motion capture performance, shared new details about the character's role in the highly anticipated game, offering fans another look at one of Marvel's most powerful—and beloved—X-Men mutants.
