Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been a fixture of superhero cinema for over two decades, but the iconic role is officially moving to a new actor.
Jackman first appeared as Logan in 2000’s X-Men and later starred in multiple solo films, including X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), and the critically acclaimed Logan (2017). Most recently, he returned in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, marking the end of the Fox era while preparing to introduce the X-Men into the MCU.

A New Wolverine
While it remains to be seen whether Jackman will reprise his role once again, with all eyes on the upcoming crossover film Avengers: Doomsday (2026), Logan will return in Marvel’s Wolverine, a standalone PlayStation 5 game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Watch the official trailer below:
Liam McIntyre, known for Spartacus and Gears of War, will voice Logan in a story exploring his violent past, intense claw combat, and relentless quest for answers.
“As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes, unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination, to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be,” the official synopsis on Marvel.com reads.
Now, Insomniac has confirmed the official release date for the game: September 15, 2026. In a post shared across social media, Insomniac wrote “Let's cut to the chase: Marvel's Wolverine launches September 15, 2026″ and shared a short teaser of the game:

The game is designed to stand alone but retains connections to Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe, giving fans a familiar setting while introducing a different take on Logan.
What This Means for the MCU
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios is preparing Avengers: Doomsday, which releases in theaters on December 18, 2026. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brings together a massive cast of MCU heroes and returning X-Men actors, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Channing Tatum.
Jackman has not been confirmed for the project (although reports suggest he could appear), leaving speculation about who will play Wolverine in future live-action films.
