Disney World guests don't expect a confirmed dining reservation to disappear on the day they're supposed to eat.
Unfortunately, that's exactly what some Steakhouse 71 guests reportedly encountered on September 6.
The restaurant at Disney’s Contemporary Resort unexpectedly closed for the day, and guests reported that existing reservations had been canceled. Disney hasn't publicly explained what happened or what forced the restaurant to stop serving guests.
The situation may be short-lived, however. Disney currently has Steakhouse 71 listed as open again on September 7.
For now, guests are waiting to see whether the restaurant returns as scheduled.
An Unexpected Closure Hits the Contemporary Resort
Steakhouse 71 isn't limited to dinner service.
The Contemporary Resort restaurant normally serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, which means a full-day shutdown can disrupt dining plans from morning through evening.
Disney's calendar showed Steakhouse 71 as closed on September 6.
Meanwhile, guests began reporting reservation cancellations.
One guest reportedly posted on Reddit that their reservation for the day had suddenly been canceled. Another commenter said their reservation had also been affected.
That can create a difficult situation for anyone already in the middle of a Walt Disney World vacation.
Guests often reserve popular table-service restaurants ahead of time. If that reservation disappears on the same day, finding another restaurant at a convenient location and time can become difficult.

Disney hasn't said why Steakhouse 71 closed.
Online speculation has centered on a possible maintenance issue, but that remains speculation. Disney hasn't confirmed maintenance or identified another reason for the shutdown.
At this point, there also isn't evidence that Steakhouse 71 is preparing for an extended closure.
The restaurant remains listed as open for September 7 on Disney's calendar, although no reservations were available for that day when the closure was reported.
If operations resume as scheduled, guests could see Steakhouse 71 return after a brief interruption.
Steakhouse 71 Replaced a Former Contemporary Restaurant
Steakhouse 71 opened in 2021 during Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary celebration.
Disney introduced the restaurant as the replacement for The Wave… of American Flavors, bringing a new steakhouse concept to the Contemporary Resort.
Its name pays tribute to Walt Disney World's opening year of 1971.
The restaurant also has a connection to Disneyland history. Steakhouse 71 acts as an East Coast version of Steakhouse 55, which previously operated at the Disneyland Hotel before permanently closing.
Since its debut, Steakhouse 71 has become another table-service option for guests visiting the Magic Kingdom resort area.
Its location can be particularly useful for Magic Kingdom visitors because the Contemporary sits close to the park.
That convenience makes an unexpected shutdown more noticeable, especially when guests have already organized their day around eating there.
September 7 Could Provide the Answer
Right now, there's no reason to treat the September 6 closure as permanent.
Disney hasn't announced that Steakhouse 71 is going away, nor has the company revealed plans for a lengthy refurbishment.
