One of the world's oldest amusement parks has closed its gates for good, as Clementon Park and Splash World confirms it will not reopen following the conclusion of its 2026 season.
A Historic Park Reaches Its End
Clementon Park and Splash World has a legacy stretching back to 1907, when it first opened as Clementon Lake Park in Clementon, New Jersey. The park holds a rare distinction as one of just over a dozen surviving trolley parks in the United States. After decades of independent ownership, the property changed hands in 2011 before eventually heading to auction in 2021.
IB Parks & Entertainment purchased the park that year, reopened it for the 2021 season, and operated it for five years before announcing its permanent closure on September 9, 2026.
The Announcement
Clementon Park and Splash World shared the news in a Facebook post on Wednesday, thanking guests for their continued support while confirming the park's immediate closure:
“As we close out our 2026 season, we want to sincerely thank our guests, Season Passholders, team members and community for being part of another summer at Clementon Park & Splash World.
After five memorable years, we are saddened to announce that we have made the difficult decision to close the park and plan to offer the park for sale.
It has been a privilege to care for a place that has meant so much to generations of families. We are hopeful that we will find a buyer who shares our love for Clementon Park and will carry its history and legacy forward.
Additional details regarding the sale will be shared as they become available.
Thank you for the memories, the support and five wonderful seasons. We are truly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
What's Next for the 119-Year-Old Park
On its official website, Clementon Park expressed hope that a future buyer could usher in a “new chapter” for the historic property and “carry the legacy forward.” Alongside a contact form for guests with questions about the closure or potential ownership changes, the park's operators wrote:
“Five seasons. Countless memories and a future filled with possibility.
Clementon Park has brought generations together through summer days, first rides, big splashes and family traditions. We welcome serious inquiries from those who see the opportunity to build upon that legacy and shape what comes next.”
At this time, Clementon Park and Splash World is not scheduled to operate under new ownership in 2027.
