Walt Disney World guests will find one less digital experience available during their next trip.
After eight years of operation, Disney has permanently retired a service that once gave guests another way to interact with its theme parks. The shutdown affects everything from saved achievements to an experience built specifically around Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
The change officially took effect September 16, 2026.
Play Disney Parks is no longer available, ending an experience that began back in 2018.
Guests Can No Longer Access Play Disney Parks
Disney gave guests advance notice about the app's retirement, but the shutdown is now complete.
Login access has been disabled, and Disney is removing the application from app stores. Guests have also lost access to their previous progress and digital achievements.
Those attempting to use Play Disney Parks now see a farewell message confirming the change.
“Thanks for Playing. The Play Disney Parks app is no longer available. Thank you for the magical memories!”
That closes the book on an app that served a much different purpose than Disney's primary vacation-planning technology.
Instead of helping guests book or organize their day, Play Disney Parks tried to make the parks themselves more interactive.
Several Disney Experiences Used the App
Over the years, Play Disney Parks offered attraction queue games, Disney trivia, digital achievements, and interactive activities.
It also supported DuckTales World Showcase Adventure and multiple experiences associated with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
One of those Star Wars features is now permanently gone.
Star Wars: Datapad has retired with the app, eliminating the smartphone-based interactive tool guests could use while exploring Batuu.
There is some good news for fans of Batuu Bounty Hunters, though.
The experience remains active at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Guests can continue hunting bounties using MagicBand+ and physical screens throughout the land. Only the portion that depended on Play Disney Parks has stopped functioning.
Eight Years Later, Disney Moves On
The retirement shows how dramatically Walt Disney World's digital landscape has changed since 2018.
Play Disney Parks arrived when Disney was experimenting with ways to make smartphones part of the entertainment inside its parks.
Its updates slowed following 2020, while Disney increasingly focused on My Disney Experience and other vacation-planning technology.
Disney later launched Genie and Genie+, with Genie+ eventually replaced by the current Lightning Lane system.
Play Disney Parks continued operating through those changes, but its eight-year run has now officially ended.
For many visitors, the shutdown won't fundamentally change a Walt Disney World vacation. For longtime users, however, the loss of achievements, games, and Star Wars: Datapad closes the door on an interactive Disney experience that lasted nearly a decade.
