The Disney Skyliner is closing from January 24 through January 30, 2027.
The whole system. All of it.
Some context.
This is annual maintenance; it happens every year, and Disney has already announced the 2028 dates, too. So nobody needs to start a thread about it.
But if you booked Pop Century because of the Skyliner, and a whole lot of people do exactly that, keep reading.
Who Is Actually Affected at Disney
Four resorts sit on the line:
- Disney's Pop Century Resort
- Disney's Art of Animation Resort
- Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney's Riviera Resort
All four ride gondolas to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. For one week, they ride buses instead. Disney is providing them free of charge.
Relax, Nothing Is Broken
Look, “Disney shuts down the Skyliner” sounds way worse than what is happening.
This is scheduled maintenance on a fixed cycle. Disney announced these dates 16 months in advance. It has already been locked in 2028 on top of that.
Companies reacting to a problem do not publish a two-year closure calendar.
Late January is also just the smart window. Holiday crowds are gone. The early January race crowds are gone. Presidents Day and spring break have not hit yet. It is the deadest stretch Disney has.
Okay, But Here Is Why It Stings
The Skyliner did not just add transportation in 2019. It changed what those hotels are.
Pop Century and Art of Animation are value resorts. Pre-2019, you rode a bus to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios like every other value resort guest on property. Then the gondolas opened, and suddenly those two had something close to deluxe transportation at value prices.
That is the reason people book them over the All-Stars. That is the entire pitch.
Riviera's whole location argument runs on it. Caribbean Beach is the hub of the system.
So for seven days, all four quietly turn back into 2018 versions of themselves. Disney will still get you to the parks. You just do not get the thing you paid for.
What the Disney Buses Do Not Cover
Park transportation? Handled.
Resort to resort? That is the gap. Bouncing from Pop over to Riviera for dinner takes minutes on a gondola. On a bus network that routes through parks, it is a project.
Small silver lining for Riviera guests, though. Getting to Hollywood Studios on the Skyliner normally means transferring at Caribbean Beach. A direct bus might genuinely be faster that week.
The EPCOT Area Resorts Are Fine
BoardWalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club guests walk to the EPCOT station but do not live and die by it.
Their regular transportation runs like normal, buses plus the Friendship boats connecting the EPCOT resort area to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
You lose a shortcut. That is it.
Everything Else Under Construction in 2027 at Disney
The Skyliner is one line on a long list:
- All-Star Movies: May 2026 to January 2027
- Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House: May 2026 to January 2027
- Grand Floridian, resort-wide plus the porte-cochère: Through early 2027
- Port Orleans Riverside, rooms: Through August 2027
- Beach Club, exterior: Through late 2027
- Contemporary, resort-wide: Through late 2027
- Coronado Springs Convention Center: Through September 2027
Half of those run most of the year. And resort-wide work at the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary can absolutely mean scaffolding outside your window, closed walkways, and construction noise, depending on where they put you.
So What Do You Do
Dates flexible? Move off January 24 through 30 and this entire article stops applying to you.
Already booked? The hotels are still good hotels. You are on a bus. Just ask yourself whether Riviera pricing still feels right for that particular week.
Never cared about the Skyliner? Carry on. Nothing here is your problem.
