If you're visiting Orlando's theme parks today, don't assume you'll be able to stay until late tonight.
An unusual combination of operating schedules at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort means most of Orlando's major theme parks will close before the evening gets very far.
In fact, five of the seven major Disney and Universal parks will be closed by 7:00 p.m.
For vacationers trying to get as much value as possible from increasingly expensive park days, that's not exactly welcome news.
Disney World Has Two 6 P.M. Closures
Walt Disney World guests have four parks to choose from, but two will close at 6:00 p.m.
Magic Kingdom is one of them.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place tonight, requiring guests with regular daytime admission to exit Magic Kingdom at 6:00 p.m. The Halloween party then runs as a separately ticketed event.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom also closes at 6:00 p.m., although there isn't a Halloween party taking over that park.
Guests wanting more time at Disney World can head to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Both remain open until 9:00 p.m., making them Disney's late-night options by comparison.
Those hours still aren't particularly late compared with some of the longer operating schedules Disney World guests have experienced in the past.
Universal Orlando Isn't Staying Open Late Either
Heading across town doesn't necessarily solve the problem.
Epic Universe closes at 6:00 p.m. for a private event, cutting off regular guests before they get much opportunity to experience Universal Orlando's newest park at night.
Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure then close at 7:00 p.m.
The Universal Studios Florida schedule is particularly interesting because there is no Halloween Horror Nights tonight. Guests have become accustomed to seeing early closures when Horror Nights takes over the park, but that isn't responsible for tonight's 7:00 p.m. closing.
The number of early closures hasn't gone unnoticed.
“Kind of amazing 3 of the 7 major Orlando theme parks close at 6 and 2 at 7. Yes i realize 2 are for private events but still,” one user wrote on X.
Full-Price Tickets, Shorter Days
Special events and private parties are part of operating major theme parks, and both resorts publish their hours so visitors can plan ahead.
But regular guests still lose something when operating days get this short.
Evening hours can be some of the most enjoyable time inside an Orlando theme park. Temperatures become more comfortable, attractions look different after dark and families who took afternoon breaks return refreshed.
A 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. closure eliminates much of that opportunity.
That's why today's calendar is worth paying attention to. Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epic Universe close at 6:00 p.m., while Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure follow at 7:00 p.m.
Five major parks, all done by 7:00 p.m.
For guests spending serious money on a Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation, that's a surprisingly early ending.
