A new chapter in the Star Wars saga is fast approaching as Ahsoka Season 2 prepares to reunite fans with the iconic former Jedi, and take the story to even greater heights. The series not only continues the legacy of its title character but also brings back a rich tapestry of familiar heroes, threats, and emotional stakes.
Premiering on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, Ahsoka carved out a pivotal place in Star Wars lore. Created by Dave Filoni and produced alongside Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy, the series forged connections across animated and live-action storytelling. By setting the narrative in 9 ABY, Ahsoka exists in the same continuity as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the Skeleton Crew.
Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano, still driven by her mission to find Ezra Bridger and uncover the ominous reappearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn, played once again by Lars Mikkelsen. Alongside her is Eman Esfandi as Ezra, reprising the character's live-action debut.
The cast also features Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as General Hera Syndulla, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, and the late Ray Stevenson as the imposing Baylan Skoll. Diana Lee Inosanto reprises her role as Morgan Elsbeth. The Season 1 finale left audiences with plenty of questions, as Ahsoka and Sabine remained stranded in another galaxy while Ezra reconnected with Hera.
Initially, it was unclear whether the story would return in another season or pivot into Filoni’s forthcoming Star Wars film, announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Other projects revealed at the event included films from James Mangold and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Since then, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter has been added to the 2027 calendar.
Those questions were finally answered with the green light for Ahsoka Season 2. The news broke alongside the reveal of a theatrical Mandalorian and Grogu movie by Favreau, arriving in May 2026.
Behind the camera, the series’ creators are reportedly writing Season 2 with a definitive ending in mind. “According to [Daniel Richtman], the plan now is to make sure the series has a satisfying ending in case it’s canceled and doesn’t return for a third season.” The report goes on, “We hadn’t expected Filoni to tell this story beyond a couple of seasons, anyway, but Disney+ could always push for more episodes if Ahsoka is a big enough hit.”
Tragically, the loss of Ray Stevenson continues to impact the show. The actor, who portrayed Baylan Skoll, passed away shortly before his 59th birthday during the filming of Cassino in Ischia (2024), after multiple reported hospitalizations due to heart complications. The series paid tribute to his work.
While Dominic Purcell completed Stevenson’s role in Cassino in Ischia, Lucasfilm has made a major move to continue Baylan’s arc.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Scottish actor Rory McCann will step into the role for Season 2. McCann, recognized for his role as The Hound in Game of Thrones, was officially revealed in costume at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo.
Baylan isn’t the only character to receive a new face in the transition from animation to live-action. Ahsoka, Hera, Ezra, and Sabine were all recast from their original Rebels voice actors—Ashley Eckstein, Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray, and Tiya Sircar—with Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eman Esfandi, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo now playing them on screen.
Recently, fans got their first tease of Ezra’s new look for Season 2. Eman Esfandi shared a Threads post showing a more refined appearance for the character, captioned “Before shooting.” The Direct followed up with a more dynamic image confirming Ezra’s updated look for his next chapter.
Introduced in Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger’s evolution from orphan to Force-wielder is one of the saga’s most compelling threads. Initially reluctant to join the fight, Ezra found his path after connecting with Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and ultimately became a cornerstone of the Rebellion.
His most defining act came when he summoned the purrgil to drag Thrawn—and himself—into deep space, ensuring the safety of Lothal. That sacrifice echoed throughout the galaxy.
In Ahsoka, it was revealed that Ezra survived and spent years isolated in another galaxy. Sabine’s bold journey brought them back together—but only briefly. Ezra returned alone, with Thrawn following close behind, leaving their fates on opposite ends of a widening conflict.
Now, with Ezra back and the galaxy inching toward another crisis, his role in the New Republic’s fragile future remains a key focus. From his roots on Lothal to his current standing as a Jedi in exile, Ezra’s path continues to be one of the franchise’s most emotional arcs.
With Ahsoka Season 2 on the horizon, all eyes are on what’s next for both the former Jedi and the young man she once sought to save.
