Star Wars fans have been spoiled lately as more and more content from a galaxy far, far away has headed towards Disney+ — and now the next Star Wars Disney+ Original Series is getting closer! The series Andor is on its way this summer, and the teaser trailer for the new show was just released .

Diego Luna, the Rogue One actor who plays Cassian Andor, stole the show opposite Felicity Jones in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016. The actor recently spoke to Vanity Fair about his new solo show and made it clear that Andor is meant to be a show that resonates with refugees (since the show portrays people fleeing from the Empire to escape its tyrannical rule).
“It’s the journey of a migrant,” Diego Luna told Vanity Fair. “That feeling of having to move is behind this story, very profoundly and very strong. That shapes you as a person. It defines you in many ways, and what you are willing to do.”
Cassian Andor might not be as well known as, say Obi-Wan Kenobi (who has his own series coming on May 27), but judging by the Andor teaser trailer, Cassian’s story will soon become a favorite on Disney+.
“This guy gave his life for the galaxy, right? I mean, he consciously, soberly, without vanity or recognition, sacrificed himself. Who does that?” showrunner Tony Gilroy recently said. “That’s what this first season is about. It’s about him being really revolution-averse, and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess.”
Viewers will see Andor’s childhood home being destroyed (and it looks like we can see glimpses of young Cassian in the teaser trailer, shown above) and will watch Cassian find a new home.
“His adopted home will become the base of our whole first season, and we watch that place become radicalized,” Tony Gilroy explained. “Then we see another planet that’s completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They’re wiping out anybody who’s in their way.”
With The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett already available, and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka both making debuts on Disney+, it might seem difficult to separate one show’s style from another. However, the teaser trailer for Andor definitely seems to be placing a strong emphasis on the conflict between the Empire and the people it’s suppressing. If you liked Rogue One, it seems likely that this show will have a similar David versus Goliath kind of tone — so check it out on August 31 when it premieres on Disney+!
