Scottish actor Ewan McGregor’s fans are apparently not the only ones inspired by his return to his Star Wars role as Obi-Wan Kenobi! McGregor’s wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who just became his wife in April 2022) is joining the Star Wars universe too.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Ewan McGregor revealed that his new wife is in fact joining the “Star Wars family” — but not on his new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on the streaming service Disney+.
“My partner, Mary, is doing that Star Wars series with Rosario and she’s about to start,” Ewan McGregor told Vanity Fair. Lucasfilm hadn’t actually verified the circulating rumors about Mary Elizabeth Winstead (McGregor’s wife) joining the Ahsoka series that stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, so McGregor’s statement is the first real confirmation that fans get!
“Our little boy has been born into this massive Star Wars family,” McGregor added, whose son Laurie (with Winstead) was born last year. “He will either embrace it or really go the other way. I don’t know. Maybe he’ll be a Trekkie!”
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is known for her roles in Sky High (2005), The Thing (2011), and the 2017 Fargo series (which is how she and McGregor met). Fans don’t know which character she will play yet, but there is lots of anticipation around the new Rosario Dawson series since Rosario’s character Ahsoka Tano has never been portrayed in a live-action movie or TV show before. The Star Wars character has only been an animated character in the Star Wars universe until now!
Rosario Dawson revealed during the Vanity Fair interview that she has struggled to keep secrets related to the Star Wars franchise, so it’s surprising that confirmation about Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s casting never slipped out. Regardless, fans of both Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead can now enjoy watching the pair embrace their intergalactic roles with Lucasfilm and the Star Wars universe!
