Disney Star Apologizes For Poor Behavior During Disastrous Interview

It’s been more than twenty years since Anne Hathaway brought Mia Thermopolis to life in the Disney movie The Princess Diaries (2001). Fans fell in love with Hathaway’s innocence and comedic styling. Three years later, she returned as Princess Mia in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. She also starred as the White Queen in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (2006) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).

Ms. Hathaway has worked hard to become a big name on both the big and small screens, and many consider her one of America’s sweethearts. However, one interview is making the rounds and making Hathaway examine her behavior.

Kjersti Flaa’s interview style has often drawn attention for its unique approach, which typically involves engaging celebrities in unconventional methods. Throughout her career, she has faced mixed reactions from audiences. Recently, her 2016 interview with It Ends With Us (2024) star Blake Lively went viral for inappropriate comments made by the starlet.

In a 2012 interview with Anne Hathaway, Flaa requested her co-interviewees, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, to sing their answers, as the three promoted their film Les Misérables. It was noted that while Jackman and Crowe participated enthusiastically, Hathaway’s responses came off as curt and dismissive.

Years later, the unearthed footage of the interview resurfaced, gaining traction online. Following the renewed attention, Hathaway reached out to Flaa, inspired by the discourse that had emerged around their interaction. The actress’s publicist conveyed a heartfelt message from Hathaway, expressing her regret for the way the interview transpired.

Flaa shared her experience with Hathaway’s apology on her YouTube channel, Flaawsome Talk. She described receiving a lengthy and candid email in which Hathaway articulated her state of mind during the 2012 interview.

“Yesterday, I did receive an email. It was from Anne Hathaway’s publicist, and he forwarded a message to me from Anne Hathaway. I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never gonna even see that video. But she did. And she did something pretty amazing.”

“[It was] a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for being…giving me an awful interview basically. It was so touching to me. Just talking about it makes me almost teary eyed, ’cause I was just so grateful that she did that. And it was a very personal note. And we decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did.”
