The reigning Queen of Genovia recently “re-earned” her crown in the eyes of fans when actor Anne Hathaway walked out of a Vanity Fair photoshoot in support of the CondĂ© Nast union walkout.
The last year has been filled with various cases of labor unions and different categories of workers standing up for themselves. In 2023, it was the WGA or the SAG-AFTRA that had many writers and actors standing up for their job protections and increased pay.
Condé Nast Union Members Protest Unlawful Negotiation Practices
In 2024, we are already seeing the first of union members following suit. Just recently, union members who work at CondĂ© Nast held a “24-hour work stoppage” to protest negotiation practices they argue are unlawful. This comes on the back of the merging of music magazine Pitchfork with GQ, which ultimately resulted in layoffs.
The Condé Nast Union had warned of its potential walkout plans online on social media X.
They wrote, “Our longest yeah boy ever: Nearly 400 of us have pledged to STOP WORK when our bargaining committee calls for a 24 hour walk out. RT to tell @CondeNast you stand with workers: stop breaking the law, stop union busting, and stop the layoffs. Keep your eyes here for more soon.”
And one celebrity made clear whose side she was on.

Anne Hathaway Walks Out of Vanity Fair Photo Shoot in Solidarity with Condé Nast Union Members
Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway walked out of a Vanity Fair photo shoot on Wednesday morning; she arrived at the New York City photo shoot unaware of the work stoppage. While Hathaway was sitting in hair and makeup, her team was advised by a SAG-AFTRA staffer to support the walkout.
A source shared with Variety, “They hadn’t even started taking photos yet. Once Anne was made aware of what was going on, she just got up from hair and makeup and left.”
Fans online were delighted to see Hathaway supporting the work stoppage. One wrote, “Not for nothing she is the Princess of Genovia. She should be the Queen if you ask me.”
Another shared a GIF of Hathaway walking powerfully from a movie:
