Avoid at All Costs: Disney Resort Crisis Could Drag Into 2027

Booking a Disney World hotel usually promises comfort, charm, and a little extra magic. However, one deluxe resort is in the middle of a massive transformation that may not deliver the experience guests expect.

For the next couple of years, visitors will likely find construction walls, closed amenities, and the hum of power tools instead of peace and quiet. The work won’t wrap until January 2027, making this resort a tricky choice for anyone planning a stay.

The resort is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, beloved for its African-inspired theming and savanna, full of wildlife. While the updates promise to elevate the guest experience long-term, the next two years bring a string of disruptions.

What Makes It Unique

Animal Kingdom Lodge has always stood apart from other Disney resorts. It immerses guests in African art and design, lets them dine at restaurants like Sanaa and Boma, and offers stunning balcony views where animals roam freely. It’s an experience many consider bucket-list worthy.

But upkeep is essential. Disney has rolled out a series of refurbishments to modernize the property. Unfortunately, that means current visitors could face unexpected frustrations.

The First Signs of Change

The Zebra Trail Terrace refurbishment at Jambo House began in July 2025. Guests have already seen scaffolding and heard construction during the day. Disney hasn’t set a firm completion date, but the work is expected to run well into September. While amenities remain open, the disruption is hard to ignore.

Pool Work Impacts Families

On September 8, 2025, the Samawati Springs Pool Slide at Kidani Village closed for maintenance. While the Uzima Springs Pool Slide at Jambo House is available, the closure is a letdown for families who chose Kidani for its convenient pool access.

Guest Room Updates

The next phase arrives in October 2025, when Kidani Village guest rooms are completely refurbished. Work will continue through May 2026, bringing modern furniture and updated layouts. Once Kidani wraps up, Jambo House guest rooms will follow, with updates from May 2026 to January 2027.

Two years of rolling refurbishments across both sections of the resort will leave few areas untouched, making the overall atmosphere less than relaxing.

Tips for Current Guests

Guests staying during the upgrades should plan smartly. Opt for a savanna view room to keep some of the resort’s magic. Spend most of the day in the parks, where construction won’t be noticeable.

Enjoy dining options like Boma and Sanaa, which remain open, and don’t hesitate to use Jambo House’s pool facilities if Kidani’s slide is unavailable. Checking for discounts could also make the stay more worthwhile.

Should You Wait?

Animal Kingdom Lodge will shine again by 2027, refreshed and reimagined for the future. Until then, however, guests must weigh whether the unique experience outweighs the inconveniences of ongoing construction. Waiting to book until the dust has settled may be the best move for some.
