Before Your Next Universal Orlando Vacation, These 5 New Rules Could Change Everything

Universal Orlando is entering another busy year, and guests may notice several differences across the resort compared to previous vacations.

Following the opening of Epic Universe, Universal has continued adjusting everything from ticket options to attraction policies. Some changes improve flexibility, while others require visitors to rethink how they plan their day.

Whether you're heading to Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, Volcano Bay, or Halloween Horror Nights, these are the biggest updates worth knowing before your trip.

Hagrid's Becomes Standby Only

One of Universal's most popular rides is changing how guests experience it.

Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure no longer offers Express Pass access, leaving standby as the only option for everyone who wants to ride.

Since the attraction already draws some of the resort's longest waits, guests may want to prioritize it early in the morning before lines continue growing throughout the day.

The rest of the nearby Wizarding World attractions still participate in Express Pass, so this change is limited to Hagrid's.

Epic Universe Adds Better Ticket Choices

Universal has also made visiting Epic Universe much easier.

Instead of limiting guests to one-day admission, the resort now offers several multi-day ticket packages that include Epic Universe along with Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

That allows visitors to experience Universal's newest park at a much more comfortable pace instead of trying to fit everything into a single day.

For many families, this may become one of the most helpful planning changes introduced since the park opened.

Volcano Bay Takes an Extended Break

Another major update affects guests visiting later this year.

Volcano Bay will temporarily close beginning October 26 while crews complete an extended refurbishment expected to continue into early April 2027.

A water park scene reminiscent of Volcano Bay features a large artificial mountain with slides and waterfalls. People are swimming and wading in a pool under a bright blue sky with fluffy clouds. Lush greenery surrounds the area, evoking the tropical charm found at Typhoon Lagoon.

Families planning fall, holiday, or spring break vacations should confirm whether the water park will be operating during their visit before finalizing travel plans.

Halloween Horror Nights Parking Costs More Guests

Another longtime Halloween Horror Nights tradition has disappeared.

Previously, guests who arrived after midnight could avoid paying for parking altogether.

Universal has now eliminated that option by keeping standard parking fees in effect until 2:00 a.m.

Anyone attending the event should factor parking into their overall vacation budget instead of expecting free late-night access.

Epic Universe Prepares for Larger Crowds

Universal also appears to be thinking ahead when it comes to crowd control.

Updated information surrounding Photo Validation indicates that facial recognition technology could eventually be used at Epic Universe's land portals whenever Virtual Line return times are necessary.

While Universal hasn't confirmed when or how often that system might be used, the change suggests the company is building additional tools to help manage attendance during especially busy days.

Planning Ahead Will Make a Difference

Universal Orlando continues making adjustments as Epic Universe becomes a larger part of the resort experience.

Some changes improve convenience, including expanded ticket options. Others, like Hagrid's Express Pass removal and updated Halloween Horror Nights parking rules, may require guests to change how they approach their visit.

The good news is that none of these updates need to derail your vacation. A little planning before you arrive can help you avoid surprises and make the most of your time across all four Universal Orlando parks.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
