Disney has confirmed that Kali River Rapids will reopen on December 12, 2025, following an extended period of downtime that didn’t follow its usual refurbishment pattern. The ride closed back in October, months earlier than its traditional January-to-spring refurbishment window, creating immediate curiosity among Animal Kingdom guests.

The earlier closure wasn’t random. With DINOSAUR scheduled for permanent closure in February, Animal Kingdom is heading into a period where one of its most popular attractions will be removed from the park’s lineup. Reopening Kali River Rapids ahead of the holiday crowds helps maintain balance, offering guests another major experience during a season when wait times typically climb across the board.
Kali River Rapids remains one of the most immersive attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The journey starts peacefully as the raft floats under a canopy of vibrant greenery, but the calm doesn’t last long. As the rapids intensify, riders spin through waves, skirt past bursts of water, and eventually reach the twenty-foot drop that defines the attraction. It’s messy, unpredictable, and always good for a laugh—especially among groups hoping someone else takes the brunt of the biggest splash.

The attraction’s reputation for soaking guests means lockers are essential. Disney placed them conveniently near the entrance, giving visitors a safe spot to store phones, wallets, and anything else that won’t survive a sudden downpour from above. They’re first-come, first-served, so early arrivals often get the easiest access.
Bringing the ride back in mid-December places it right in the middle of one of the busiest travel windows of the year. Families often plan their vacations around this time, and having another big-ticket ride available helps keep the park’s energy flowing while reducing pinch points in other areas. Guests hoping to experience Kali River Rapids should be ready for steady crowds, especially if the weather holds up and Florida’s winter stays mild.

Even so, the return is welcome news. The ride’s long refurbishment raised questions, and now those questions have been replaced with anticipation. Guests visiting Animal Kingdom in December will once again have a chance to brave the unpredictable waters, take in the scenic storytelling, and embrace the possibility of walking off the raft completely soaked.
