The iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer series is being revived, with Hulu leading the charge for a fresh take on the beloved franchise.
However, this new iteration will introduce a completely new cast. While Sarah Michelle Gellar will be reprising her role as Buffy Summers, none of the other actors, including her three main co-stars Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), and Anthony Head (Rupert Giles), from the original show have been confirmed.
Per TVLine, the new series will revolve around a new Slayer named Nova. According to the article, Nova is a 16-year-old loner who’s very intelligent. Her friends are Hugo, a well-to-do nerd, and Gracie, an expert on vampires who looks up to Buffy Summers (Gellar).
These three characters essentially replace Buffy Summers, Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon), and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan).

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that Sarah Michelle Gellar will only be a “recurring guest star,” presumably to offer her wisdom to the new Slayer from time to time.
The highly anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival is being led by a talented team. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman from Poker Face are on writing duties, while Eternals director Chloé Zhao is signed on to direct and executive produce. Gellar, who played Buffy for seven seasons, is also onboard as an executive producer, alongside the original show's EPs, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton.
Gellar, 47, has since expressed excitement for the revival, taking to Instagram to write a lengthy statement to her many followers.
“This has been a long process, and it's not over yet,” she said. “I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there. I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love Buffy as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.”
