If you are on your way to Walt Disney World, you may encounter quite the backup arriving at the resort’s exit off of Florida’s Interstate-4 this morning.
At approximately 10:30 AM, January 27, 2022, a car accident occurred right before Exit 62 on I-4 Eastbound, the exit that is used to reach Walt Disney World from points west. It appears that a driver went off-road and crashed into a tree, with police and paramedics promptly arriving on the scene.
At this time, we have no word on whether there were any injuries reported during the accident or if any other drivers were involved, but we will update you as we know more.
Another exit early on I-4 created some additional backup for drivers heading west across one of Florida’s main highway systems this morning as you can see in the map below. Travelers may not be aware of the amount of traffic on I-4, but adding to your travel time if you are heading this way to visit Walt Disney World is never a bad idea.
As one of Florida’s most traveled highways, I-4 often becomes backed up easily, and even more so when you factor in the occasional accident, construction, and out-of-town visitors driving in an area unknown to them. Avoiding I-4 if you are able to can certainly save you some travel time during your Walt Disney World vacation, and it can help serve as a reason to stay on Disney property.
While we are still waiting for some perks of staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels to return following the COVID-19 pandemic, one definite benefit to staying on property is avoiding Orlando and other highway traffic. Disney resort Guests do enjoy complimentary transportation to the theme parks, other resorts, and Disney Springs, however even if you are driving your own car you may find more value in knowing you will be able to avoid all outside traffic.
We will be back with updates if they become available following this morning’s crash, and if traffic conditions in the area change for those traveling toward Walt Disney World today.
