December weather has brought a shift in routine across Walt Disney World Resort, as Central Florida experiences a stretch of rain, wind, and cooler temperatures. These changes have influenced guest planning and park operations, particularly at Disney’s water parks.

According to forecasts released by Click Orlando last week, the region was heading into an unstable weather pattern beginning over the weekend. Scattered showers were expected to develop on Saturday, December 6, before expanding into more consistent rainfall on Sunday, December 7. Rain chances were predicted to climb steadily—from around 30 percent earlier Saturday to nearly 50 percent by the afternoon, then reaching close to 80 percent by late Sunday. Only limited thunderstorm activity was expected.
Temperatures were also forecast to follow a downward trend. After several days with highs in the low to mid-80s, Sunday’s temperatures were projected to reach the mid-70s. As the new week approached, forecasts showed highs settling into the upper 60s and low 70s, paired with cooler overnight conditions.

Click Orlando explained that a combination of weather systems was responsible for the changes. “From Saturday through Monday, a sloppy weather pattern settles in,” the outlet stated. “The weak front over North Florida sags into Central Florida and gradually fades, while another low-pressure system takes shape along the northern Gulf Coast on Sunday. That developing low will then help pull a stronger cold front through the region late Sunday into Monday.”
For Disney guests, these updates carried particular weight for those hoping to visit Typhoon Lagoon. Weather had already played a role earlier in the season, when the water park temporarily closed over Thanksgiving weekend as cooler air moved into the area.

With additional rainfall expected—estimated between one and three inches in parts of Central Florida, especially north and west of the I-4 corridor—attention turned once again to potential operational changes. Although Typhoon Lagoon continued to display scheduled hours for the following week at the time, Disney has consistently adjusted water park availability when weather affects guest experience or safety.
Those adjustments soon followed. Typhoon Lagoon closed on December 11 and December 12 as rain and cooler temperatures took hold, reflecting concerns that had surfaced earlier with the forecast.

Just days later, another closure has been confirmed. The Walt Disney World Resort website now lists “No Times Available” for Typhoon Lagoon on Monday, December 15, 2025. Updated forecasts help explain the decision.
“As the cold front arrives on Sunday, expect a few more clouds and the chance for isolated showers, mainly along the coast late in the day,” Click Orlando reported. “By Monday, Central Florida will likely wake up to chilly and breezy conditions. North winds are forecast to pick up, ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph possible.”
The closure is expected to impact guests using the complimentary water park entry benefit tied to their resort stay. With Typhoon Lagoon unavailable, guests may redirect plans to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, potentially increasing overall attendance at those parks.

Weather remains a key factor during the winter season at Walt Disney World, and December’s conditions continue to show how quickly plans can change.
