Here at Disney Fanatic, we keep a sharp eye on Disney news (especially during big events like the 2022 D23 Expo, which is happening this weekend) — and we are happy to report that the rumors of Inside Out 2 that we had shared earlier this summer were correct! The Inside Out sequel is officially happening!
Amy Poehler, who played the emotion Joy in the first Inside Out film from Pixar Animation Studios, appeared in person at the D23 Expo to confirm the news!

Inside Out was an extremely popular 2015 Pixar movie due to the excellent casting for its voiceover actors, the beautiful and creative landscape designed by Pixar Animation Studios to represent Riley’s inner workings, and the pure emotion that (appropriately) guided the entire film.
Many viewers found themselves unexpectedly struck by intense emotions and tears while watching the animated film (and laughing very hard during the follow-up Pixar short called Riley’s First Date), so it is no surprise that a sequel has been in the works!
The DLP Report Tweeted the following about the movie after Amy Poehler’s in-person announcement: “This time we’re going to explore Riley’s teenage years – and there will be a new emotion! In theaters Summer 2024!”

The rumor that we had first shared earlier this year also indicated that the Inside Out sequel would focus on Riley’s challenges with teenage angst and puberty. It has been confirmed by Disney and Pixar that Amy Poehler is back in her starring role as Joy, and it seems highly likely that Bill Hader will be back as Fear, Mindy Kaling will return as Disgust, Phyllis Smith will return as Sadness, and comedian Lewis Black will step back into his feisty shoes as Anger.
