Nearly two decades have passed since Ratatouille charmed audiences with its tale of Remy, the ambitious rat who dreams of becoming a renowned chef in Paris. Pixar’s 2007 hit not only won hearts worldwide but also gave birth to memorable moments, from Remy’s culinary adventures to the stunning animation that brought the French city to life.
With the movie’s undeniable success, fans have long wondered whether Disney and Pixar would revisit Remy and Linguini’s story for a sequel.

In the years following Ratatouille’s release, Pixar’s focus has shifted toward sequels, with Toy Story 4 (2019) and Inside Out 2 (2024) achieving major commercial success. Given the trend of sequels dominating the studio’s output, it’s no surprise that people continue to ask: Will we ever get a sequel to Ratatouille?
While the question remains unanswered, Patton Oswalt, the actor behind Remy’s voice, recently shared his perspective on the idea of returning to the kitchen for a second helping.
During an interview with Collider, Oswalt was asked whether he would be interested in reprising his iconic role in a potential Ratatouille sequel. His response wasn’t an outright yes or no, but instead, he emphasized the importance of creative integrity.

Oswalt made it clear that his return would only happen if the right story was developed by the film’s original writer and director, Brad Bird. As Oswalt explained:
“You just said the key to it. The world where that exists is where Brad thinks of a great idea, and until he does that, it’s not gonna happen. So I’m totally happy with no sequel unless he comes up with something amazing. And I trust in Brad.”
Oswalt’s words suggest that, while fans may be eager for more Ratatouille, the actor is committed to preserving the spirit of the original film. Any future project would need to meet the high standards set by Bird, who crafted a world that resonates with so many.

Brad Bird, who played a crucial role in the creation of Ratatouille, has been somewhat reluctant to revisit the world of Remy and Linguini. Back in 2018, Bird expressed his feelings about sequels in an interview with io9, stating that he didn’t have much interest in returning to the Ratatouille universe.
“You know, I feel like that story is told. I’m told I need to do an Iron Giant 2 and I’m told I need to remake everything that I’ve made and no one apparently wants anything new anymore. I’m a little at odds with society on that. I would like to do some new things.”

Despite his previous reluctance, Bird has continued to work with Pixar, directing Incredibles 2 (2018) and contributing to Toy Story 4. He is currently focused on Incredibles 3, which is set for release in 2028. This suggests that Bird’s stance on returning to Ratatouille could change over time. After all, it took 14 years between The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, which proves that ideas can evolve and surprise even the creators.
So, what does this all mean for a Ratatouille sequel? While Oswalt’s comments and Bird’s past reservations leave us uncertain, they also remind us of the importance of quality and creative vision. There’s still a possibility that a Ratatouille sequel could materialize — but only if it’s the right story and the right time.
Now, we want to know: Would you like to see a Ratatouille sequel? Do you agree with Oswalt’s cautious approach, or do you think Pixar should go ahead and create a follow-up? Share your thoughts in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you!
