EPCOT Roller Coaster Is Upgraded With a Bang

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster has been the talk of the town lately in the Walt Disney World Resort and EPCOT communities, primarily because it is one of the Disney Park’s newest additions.

Even though this Marvel Studios movie-inspired roller coaster might be a bit more barebones than Disney Guests would like (as shown during this embarrassing ride malfunction), the Cosmic Rewind roller coaster still features the popular Marvel characters known as the Guardians of the Galaxy as well as some high-octane and fast-paced roller coaster experiences, so the ride has remained popular.

This popularity has held strong even as Marvel fans and EPCOT Guests have reported feeling intense nausea after riding the new Disney ride, so the roller coaster’s reputation remains “marvelous” — and now the Cosmic Rewind roller coaster has just gotten an upgrade to up the ante and increase the roller coaster’s intensity for EPCOT Guests!

As with many roller coasters, there are already plenty of flashing lights and loud noises on this intergalactic ride through time (which also involves Nova Corps) — but now the Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova Corps ride has an extra addition during its Big Bang scene!

According to journalist Scott Gustin, “if you ride Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, you might notice a new bright flash on screen during the Big Bang moment.”

“The effect enhances the “bang” moment and forces your eyes adjust to the light, making the room seem darker during the backwards launch,” the journalist wrote in the Tweet shown below.

Since Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Imagineers that make up said department are usually hard at work making new Disney experiences for Guests that are chock-full of details — including optical illusions and small touches that increase the quality of experiences — this addition to the “Big Bang” in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is not particularly surprising.

It may be a bit jarring for some Guests, though — so now if you’re a repeat visitor who notices other passengers as they question that unnamed difference in the sequence, you can be the one to tell them why!
