‘Cosmic Rewind’ Shocks and Disappoints Passengers During Malfunction

It will be no surprise to many frequent Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort Guests that a lot of less-than-glamorous work goes on behind the scenes in order to produce the Disney magic that so many Disney fanatics love to embrace on Disney vacations. However, during a recent malfunction, one of Disney’s newest roller coasters gave its passengers a particularly bleak look at the Marvel magic that makes it tick!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of the newest Marvel attractions to come to Disney Parks. The Cosmic Rewind roller coaster can be found in EPCOT at the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion (with Xandar being a planet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), and the Cosmic Rewind roller coaster features the Guardians of the Galaxy as well as the NOVA Corps leader Nova Prime (who is played by the actress who once played Cruella DeVil, Glenn Close).

The new ride has been met with positive reviews from many Disney World Guests who have been eager to try it — including Dave Bautista, who plays one of the Guardians — although more than one other Guest reported extreme nausea after trying the ride.

Recently, footage was captured when the Cosmic Rewind roller coaster broke down (midway through a group of passengers’ journey along the Cosmic Rewind roller coaster route) showing just how uninspiring and less-than-“Marvel”ous the roller coaster’s infrastructure seems to actually be. Check out the ‘real’ Cosmic Rewind roller coaster in the TikTok video shown below, which was posted by Disney World and EPCOT Guest @amusementinsider!

Marvel movies like the upcoming (and possibly depressing) Guardians of the Galaxy sequel and the new movie Thor: Love and Thunder are usually known for sporting colorful, eye-catching, and CGI-heavy landscapes that leave audiences in awe. The roller coaster’s surroundings shown in the TikTok video above, however, do not fit any of those descriptors.

While it makes sense that Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Imagineers might choose to spend their funds and focus on the parts of the roller coaster that passengers are actually meant to be experiencing, it may still be disconcerting for Disney fans to see that the Walt Disney Imagineers working for Walt Disney Imagineering have seemingly put no effort into decorating the innards of the ride for occasions like this malfunction.

We already know that Disney rides do break down — and often, if this recent day is anything to go by — so it is surprising that Disney does not at least paint the ride’s landscape with some bright Marvel colors or add some fun artwork to impress Guests instead of leaving them jarred with disappointment!

Do you think that the real setting that Walt Disney Imaginereing has created for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is lackluster? And is this your favorite project from Walt Disney Imagineers working for Walt Disney Imagineering, or do you prefer something in the Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios (or even just some other ride in EPCOT)?
