It’s always an exciting day when someone shares their pregnancy announcement, and that is incredibly true for one Little Mermaid star! We wonder if they’ll turn out to be a soft shell when their bundle of joy makes their grand entrance.
In May 2023, Disney released its newest live-action remake about the mermaid who dreamed of being a part of the human world (even though it’s a mess). The Little Mermaid starred Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. Jonah Hauer-King played the adventurous Prince Eric, comedian Awkwafina voiced Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay was Flounder, and Hamilton star Daveed Diggs voiced Sebastian.
Disney has been facing a lot of backlash not just for its live-action remakes, but The Little Mermaid in particular. The trolls came out to attack Disney for its casting of Halle Bailey — a black actress — as Ariel. However, when the movie hit theaters, fans could not get enough. The movie made more than $560 million at the box office and is one of the most popular movies on Disney+.

Fans also love the new storyline. The 2023 remake is currently sitting at a 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For comparison, the 1989 animated version starring Jodi Benson has an 88% rating.
A Joyous Pregnancy Announcement
One of the most popular characters in both the animated version and the live-action Little Mermaid is Sebastian the crab. Sebastian tries to come off as strict and commanding, but truly has a heart of gold and wants nothing more than for Ariel to be happy.

Fans were thrilled when Daveed Diggs was cast as the voice of Sebastian, and loved his take on “Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl.” Diggs has been beloved by audiences since he shot to fame as the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton. And they are thrilled for him in a whole new way.
In a joint pregnancy announcement, Diggs and his longtime partner, Emmy Raver-Lampman announced that they were expecting their first child!
we can’t wait to meet you. ❤️

Diggs and Raver-Lampman have been together since 2015. The two actually met while they were both in the cast of Hamilton. Raver-Lampman performed in the ensemble and was also the understudy for Peggy/Maria Reynolds, Angelica, and Eliza. She also starred in a number of hit television shows, including Umbrella Academy and Central Park.
Congratulations Pour In
Shortly after Diggs and Raver-Lampman shared their exciting news, congratulatory messages started pouring in from friends, fans, and costars. Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda shared a GIF of an excited Diggs. Leslie Odom Jr. — who played Aaron Burr — also commented on the happy news, “Freshly braided and twisted…we gon all be alright.”
Frozen star Kristin Bell could not contain her excitement for the couple.

Even iconic actress Helen Hunt volunteered to be a babysitter for the couple.
We send our best wishes to the happy couple and congratulate them on their pregnancy. With two amazing people who are so excited to be parents, that is certainly going to be one lucky baby!
