Metaphorical shots continue to be fired between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and now tensions are apparently high enough to be worthy of mockery!
In a parody article on the website called The Onion, Governor Ron DeSantis apparently decides to make amends with Disney — but only after he is cast in a small role as part of The Mandalorian, a popular Star Wars show on Disney+.
According to the article, “saying he was happy to finally bury the hatchet with the major corporation after months of difficult dialogue, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that he had ended his feud with Disney after being given a guest role on The Mandalorian.”
The article cites a fake quote from DeSantis, who says the following: “I couldn’t be more excited to let bygones be bygones and announce my one-episode stint as Imperial Moff Rego Thalcyon.”
The small character being played by DeSantis, supposedly, is given only one line: “Yes, most acceptable” (which is said “with his arms crossed behind his back as he dispatches an imperial guard to attack a gang of intruders”).
“Obviously, I never wanted my differences with Disney to spiral out of control like this,” DeSantis said in the fake interview. “So, yeah, it was a blast to spend some time on set, even if it was only for a day. They even let me take a selfie with Pedro [Pascal] and the Grogu puppet.”
The article ended with a note that “at press time, DeSantis was reportedly furious after learning his guest role had been cut for time.”
If this article were indeed true, being ‘pranked’ by Disney would seem appropriate since Disney recently ‘coincidentally’ promoted its brand-new Pride Nite event just hours after Governor DeSantis made some new scathing remarks about Walt Disney World Resort.
Ironically, being mocked in a parody or satirical article like this actually means that Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger and Governor Ron DeSantis now have something in common! After announcing plans for thousands of layoffs and budget cuts, Disney CEO Bob Iger was the subject of a satirical article recently in which he was accused of laying off most of the Disney princess Snow White’s “seven dwarfs.”
