EPCOT guests walking through the park today got hit with a surprise that nobody saw coming. Literally overnight, Disney installed a massive prop that has people stopping dead in their tracks to take photos. We're talking about a 14-foot-tall Genie's lamp that weighs 1,200 pounds and comes straight from Broadway.
This Isn't Just Any Festival Decoration
Disney has brought the actual Genie's lamp from the New Amsterdam Theatre in NYC to EPCOT, where it is positioned across from CommuniCore Hall. Designed by Bob Crowley and built by NPARALLEL and Atomic Props, this lamp debuted in March 2024 to celebrate Aladdin's 10th Broadway anniversary.
At the theater, it spins on the marquee and releases smoke to create the illusion of the Genie inside. The intricate craftsmanship matches the prop used in the stage production, allowing guests at EPCOT to admire its details up close. It's a remarkable logistical achievement for Disney.
Festival of the Arts Kicks Off Tomorrow at Disney
The installation's timing is significant as it coincides with the start of the 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, running through February 23. This year, Disney is highlighting Broadway with the exhibit Once Upon A Stage: The Magic of Disney on Broadway at CommuniCore Hall.
It features authentic props and costumes from productions like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast, along with photo opportunities and behind-the-scenes insights. This is a great opportunity for Broadway fans to appreciate the artistry of these beloved shows without traveling to New York.
The Broadway Concert Series Is Stacked
The Disney on Broadway Concert Series is back for 2026, and the lineup is absolutely loaded. Six performers are making their series debut this year. Isabelle McCalla, Sierra Boggess, Anastacia McCleskey, Ainsley Melham, Susan Egan, and James Monroe Iglehart are all joining the festival for the first time.
They'll be performing alongside returning favorites like Adam Jacobs, Michael James Scott, Josh Strickland, Mandy Gonzalez, Kissy Simmons, and Ashley Brown. The performances are scheduled throughout the festival with different pairings on different dates. The whole thing wraps up with a special showcase on February 22 and 23 featuring Brown, Melham, Egan, and Iglehart performing together.
For guests who want guaranteed seating, Disney offers 15 dining packages. These pair meals at various EPCOT restaurants with priority seating for that evening's concert. Booking opened back on December 17. These packages tend to fill up quickly. They're one of the most reliable ways to secure good seats.
Could More Props Be Coming to Disney?
Here's the question everyone's asking now. If Disney went through the effort of transporting a 1,200-pound lamp from New York to Florida, what else are they planning? The festival doesn't officially start until tomorrow. This means there's still time for Disney to add more outdoor installations to the area.
EPCOT has a track record of going all out for Festival of the Arts. The park typically features living statues, interactive art pieces, and photo opportunities scattered throughout World Showcase and the central areas. Adding more Broadway-themed props would make total sense and would create even more buzz heading into opening day.
The Details Matter at Disney
What makes this Genie's lamp installation so effective is that it's not fake. Disney could have easily commissioned a replica or created something similar just for the festival. Instead, they brought the real thing. That commitment to authenticity is what separates Disney's festivals from generic themed events.
When guests see this lamp, they're looking at the same prop that theater audiences in New York see. That connection to the actual productions makes the entire festival experience feel more legitimate and special.
Mark Your Disney Calendars
The 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts officially starts tomorrow, January 16, and runs through February 23. The Genie's lamp is positioned across from CommuniCore Hall and Plaza where it's impossible to miss. If you're planning to visit the festival, this is definitely worth checking out in person. Photos don't really do justice to how massive this thing actually is.
If you're a Broadway fan, you'll appreciate how the lamp, the exhibit, and the concert series come together to create a celebration of art. Disney has chosen to make this year's festival a love letter to Broadway, and fans love it.
