Tens of thousands of people visit Disney theme parks every single day. Disney’s rides and attractions are running from sun up to sun down. That means that they experience A LOT of wear and tear. Disney needs to make sure the attractions are running as well as they can, so rides sometimes need to be closed for refurbishment. Sometimes those refurbishments last only a few days. Other times they can be more extensive and last for months. Also, sometimes the older attractions need more love than the newer ones, leading to longer refurbishment.
Disneyland Park opened in 1955, and, four years later, one of its most iconic attractions opened — Matterhorn Bobsleds. The Matterhorn takes Guests up Matterhorn Mountain, where they encounter the infamous Yeti. From there, they are catapulted on a thrilling journey through the mountain as they try to escape. To this day, the Matterhorn remains one of the most popular attractions at The Happiest Place on Earth.
However, because the attraction is older, it needs more maintenance. The Matterhorn was closed for three months last summer, and now, it is closed again. The ride closed on April 17, with no reopening date announced.
However, that has now changed. On April 21, the Disneyland Resort website was officially updated with a reopening date for the Matterhorn. Guests can once again board bobsleds and encounter the infamous Yeti beginning June 2!
Matterhorn Bobsleds will be closed for refurbishment from April 17 to June 1, 2023.
The Matterhorn will be reopening just as the summer crowds descend on both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park. Reservations are still required to visit both theme parks. If you are planning on visiting the theme parks this summer, it is recommended that you make reservations as soon as possible. That is especially true if you are a Magic Key Holder, as reservations tend to fill quickly.
The Walt Disney Company is currently celebrating its 100th Anniversary, and the biggest part of the celebration is taking place at Disneyland Resort. Guests can enjoy limited-time food offerings, and there is a ton of great merchandise. Each night, Guests can watch Wondrous Journeys at Disneyland Park and World of Color – ONE over at California Adventure.
Guests also have until May 31 to ride Splash Mountain. The ride will close on June 1 as it is transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
