Disneyland Resort is known for transporting guests to stunningly themed lands that bring beloved stories and international landmarks to life. From the towering peak of the Matterhorn to the vibrant Main Street, U.S.A., every corner of the resort is meticulously designed to capture the magic of Walt Disney’s vision. However, guests visiting Disney California Adventure have noticed something missing—several of the park’s signature water features have gone dry.
Waterfalls Missing at Disney California Adventure Park

Grizzly Peak is one of the most visually striking areas of Disney California Adventure Park, evoking the untamed beauty of California’s national parks in the 1950s. Lately, however, guests have found the area looking a little less wild. Reddit user u/jonasmckee recently sparked discussion after sharing a photo of a broken waterfall in the area, writing:
“At DCA, and noticed the big fountain is not running and also the large rapid waterfalls are not going either. Anybody you know why?”

The post quickly gained traction as fans debated the reason behind the dry spell in Grizzly Peak.
Fans Weigh In on the Cause
Many Disneyland Resort fans were quick to point out that the missing water features were likely due to the annual refurbishment of Grizzly River Run. The iconic white-water rafting attraction closed for its routine winter refurbishment on January 6, 2025, and is set to reopen on March 13. Disneyland Resort often performs extensive maintenance on water-based attractions during the colder months, when fewer guests want to get wet.

However, others were disappointed that the scenic waterfalls weren’t left running while the attraction was closed.
“I wish they could leave that part running and while they work on Grizzly,” Reddit user u/Traditional-Fan-5181 commented.
Some Disney Parks fans speculated that the decision to turn off the water might have to do with preparations for Disneyland’s 70th-anniversary celebration.

“In addition to the regular maintenance that everyone else is talking about, I’d also like to point out the the 70th anniversary is right around the corner,” Reddit user u/g0gues wrote. “There’s little things around the parks that they seem to be working on to make sure the park is looking good for the big anniversary.”
Is It About More Than Maintenance?
Not everyone believed ride refurbishment was the only reason for the missing waterfalls. Some fans suggested that Disneyland Resort might have shut down the water features due to ongoing environmental concerns, such as the Southern California drought and the region’s recovery from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

“There was speculation that they turned them all off because it was a bad look when there was water needed for the fires,” u/jonasmckee wrote.
Another Disney Parks fan, u/BB_210, simply commented, “It stopped raining last week.”
Nevertheless, the missing waterfalls are only temporary. The water features should return once Grizzly River Run reopens on March 13, 2025.
