One of the things that makes a Disney vacation so magical is the Cast Members who work in the Parks. Whether they work in Food and Beverage, in custodial, as characters in the Parks, or running the attractions, Cast Members can take a vacation from good to great. Cast Members always greet Guests with a smile, and some of them go above and beyond. Guests love Cast Members so much that Disney even added a “Cast Compliment” feature to both the My Disney Experience app and the Disneyland Mobile app.
Sadly, not all Cast Members who work at the Parks are as wonderful as the majority. Take Jorge Diaz-Vega Jr, for example. On March 31, Diaz-Vega was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Diaz-Vega was working in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When he was arrested, he admitted to taking more than 500 “upskirt” videos of Guests. He would later watch those videos for “sexual gratification.” Diaz-Vega admitted that he had been taking the illicit videos at the Disney Park for about six years.
Well, on June 5, Diaz-Vega was arrested at Publix Supermarket for the same crime, while he was out on bond for his Disney arrest. According to Law & Crime, Jorge Diaz-Vega was caught by the husband of a woman who thought Diaz-Vega had taken photos under her dress. When confronted, Diaz-Vega admitted that he had been fired before for the same crime and begged the man not to call the police. Diaz-Vega promised that he would delete the photos.
Upon arriving at the store, deputies spoke with a woman who said she was in the bakery section when she noticed a man wearing a baggy gray shirt following her and her husband, describing him as “big, tall, heavy set, dark skinned, with black hair and a black beard.” She said the man “suddenly passed behind her and knelt to the side with his phone in his hand” and she suspected he was recording or taking photos of her.
The victim told her husband what happened and he began to follow the man —later identified as Diaz-Vega — to see what he was doing. She said that Diaz-Vega then got on the checkout line where he was behind another woman. The victim “watched him take his phone and move it underneath the woman’s dress,” telling deputies she believed “he was taking photos/recordings of the woman’s undergarments.”
The former Disney World employee left the store before police arrived, but left his phone with the woman’s husband. The husband looked in the phone and found videos that Diaz-Vega had taken, including one up the man’s wife’s dress. Diaz-Vega’s phone belonged to his father, who allowed police to look at the phone. Publix also provided security footage, which confirmed what the husband and wife were saying.
Diaz-Vega was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office on charges of two counts of video voyeurism, which is a third-degree felony. He has been released on a $5,000 bond and is prohibited from entering any Publix supermarket.
