Booking a Disney resort vacation for 2028 may feel like planning far in advance, but Disney is already issuing an important warning to some Florida travelers.
A lengthy refurbishment will affect several popular recreational offerings for months. While the resort itself will continue welcoming guests, anyone visiting during the project will find a noticeably different experience.
The work won't permanently eliminate the affected amenities. Disney calls it routine maintenance, but the timing and duration of the closure could still affect whether families choose to visit in the first part of 2028.
For travelers who spend much of their vacation at the resort, this is one refurbishment worth knowing about early.
Disney Offers More Than the Traditional Orlando Experience
Walt Disney World has plenty of higher-end accommodations surrounding its theme parks.
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney's Yacht Club Resort, and Disney's Beach Club Resort are among the Deluxe Resort hotels guests can choose.
These resorts generally offer extensive amenities while keeping vacationers close to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
But Disney's Florida resort presence doesn't end at Walt Disney World.
Disney's Vero Beach Resort offers a different option along Florida's Atlantic Coast. Instead of placing guests near theme park entrances, this property centers its vacation experience on the beach, swimming, recreation, and resort relaxation.
That makes losing several recreational amenities at once especially noteworthy.
Guests Come Here for a Slower Disney Vacation
Disney's Vero Beach Resort sits roughly two hours southeast of Walt Disney World and is part of Disney Vacation Club. Guests don't have to be Disney Vacation Club members to book a stay there.
Its location naturally creates a different kind of Disney trip.
Families aren't waking up each morning and rushing toward theme park attractions. They can spend more time around the resort, enjoy the coastal setting, head to the beach, or build their days around recreational activities.
For some families, that could mean spending a significant amount of time at the pool. Younger visitors also have recreational options that can help fill a resort day.
Those amenities become more important when the resort itself serves as the main destination.
Unfortunately, several of them will temporarily disappear in 2028.
Multiple Recreational Offerings Will Close
Disney plans to close the resort pool for routine maintenance beginning January 10, 2028.
The project will continue through April 2028, meaning guests visiting during several months of the year won't have access to the pool.
Two additional recreational offerings will also become unavailable.
The Tiger Lily Water Play Area will close during the refurbishment, removing another water-based option for families. Port Holes Miniature Golf will also be unavailable while the work continues.
Guests could experience construction beyond the actual closures, too.
Disney warns that visitors staying at the resort during the project may see construction activity or hear noise in the affected area until crews complete the work.
The company currently describes the project as routine maintenance rather than a permanent transformation. Still, temporarily losing three recreational offerings simultaneously could significantly affect certain vacations.
Disney Resort Construction Isn't Unusual
The 2028 project also follows other refurbishment and construction work across Disney's resort portfolio.
Disney continues to complete renovations, with additional projects expected to affect resort guests through 2027.
Exactly how much those projects interfere with a vacation depends on the work involved. Construction walls or daytime noise may create only a minor inconvenience for some visitors.
Larger projects can temporarily take away pools, restaurants, recreation, transportation options, or other resort amenities.
Importantly, Disney resorts can remain open while that work happens.
Guests may still have access to their rooms and many regular services, even when another part of the property is under refurbishment.
That makes checking scheduled resort work particularly useful before traveling, especially when booking a vacation far in advance.
Guests Have Time to Decide What Works
Anyone considering Disney's Vero Beach Resort from January 10 through April 2028 should know what the refurbishment means before committing to those dates.
The resort won't close, but the pool, Tiger Lily Water Play Area, and Port Holes Miniature Golf will all become unavailable during the project. Construction noise and activity may also affect the surrounding area.
For guests who mainly want a peaceful coastal getaway and plenty of beach time, the closures might not change their plans.
Families expecting to spend hours swimming or taking advantage of the affected recreational offerings could view things differently.
Fortunately, Disney has announced the refurbishment well in advance. Travelers have time to consider how important those amenities are to their vacation and decide whether an early 2028 visit still makes sense or whether waiting until the work finishes would provide the experience they want.
